A Kind of Loving was released in the UK on 12 April 1962.
36-year-old John Schlesinger’s feature film directorial debut was based on Stan Barstow’s 1960 novel and became one of the most popular films of the year (and grouped with other “kitchen sink dramas” of the time). It also established 28-year-old Alan Bates as a star.
