I listened to this and what strikes me here is that Bowman didn't offer Kyle Beach help when he came forward because they're in a "win now" mode, which led to a prolongued suffering of Kyle and the rape of a minor. Jonathan Toews only input ten years later is how "good Bowman was to HIM".

Now the same man will hire Babcock, a man known to mistreat rink staff, own staff & players to the point of mental breakdowns and ptsd, because he needs to win now. Again the top players back these decisions - First the hiring of Bowman and now babcock - because those guys are/will be good to THEM.

Those men do not care about anyone but themselves, not women, some obscure community, not even fellow players when they're not in their friend circle.

People keep claiming Bowman has learned - how can they uphold this when he wants to hire that man? How can the NHL keep him employed when it goes against the clause they set up prior to the restatement?

Why do so few people keep the leaders in this sport to any standard when it comes to actual harm and not only to plotical beliefs unless it's the guy of another team they never liked any way?

man, i really wish the oilers were easier to root for lol. but they’re really shaping up to be the chicago of the 2020s, especially in regards to cultivating the “anything to win” mentality in a way where that means “we’ll sacrifice/walk over anything and anyone to win” rather than “we’ll cultivate any supportive opportunity to help our players thrive”. really hope we don’t end up finding out about despicable behind-the-scenes abuses having happened like five years down the line.

like, given that chicago cleaned house and did reparations work they might actually be easier to root for as an organisation right now than the oilers. which, jesus. how. they still have a racist-ass logo, that’s like coming dead last in a race behind a car with two flats.

Real people were harmed by Stan Bowman’s inaction. He then he actively helped a predator cover up his crimes and get access to more people to harm.

I just… I really don’t understand why they would hire him. There’s no amount of “work” he could’ve done that would undo the harm he’s caused. He doesn’t need another chance, there are so many other people the Oilers could’ve chosen.

I don’t know that I’m going to be able to root for them anymore. I feel sick to my stomach

Jeff Jackson locked down his twitter/x profile before the announcement because he didn’t want to deal with the backlash. They know the fans don’t want this and are choosing to close their eyes and cover their ears.

Contact sponsors, don’t give the organisation monetary support, keep being vocal, don’t let them think fans will just forget or accept this hiring. They’re banking on the momentum from reaching game 7 in the finals and being a goal away from winning to keep fan support alive. They’re hoping that fans will eventually only care about the cup.
