The thought of school was simultaneously nerve-wrecking and exciting to Jack. Being thrown straight into first grade was a little bit terrifying. Unlike most kids his age he hadn’t been eased into the school system through preschool and kindergarten, his mother deciding that it would be in his best interests to be schooled at home with her and a tutor. Her decision was understandable; Jack needed to be taught differently than most young children, but that didn’t make it any less lonely.
