Thoughts on Turning 50
It’s like when you’re in the shower and can’t remember if you already shampooed your hair, so you do it again anyway and as you’re doing it you feel a bit of déjà vu, but you can’t tell if it’s because you already did just shampoo your hair or if it’s because you’ve shampooed your hair a thousand—or a hundred thousand!—times before, or if it’s because you have forgotten just as many times before whether or not you shampooed your hair, then shampooing (perhaps again) just in case, because what difference does it make and it’s always better to be safe (with clean hair) then sorry (with possibly dirty hair)—which inevitably leads to the realization that you’re giving all this shampooed/ not shampooed business way too much thought. But at least it passes the time in the shower while you forget (perhaps again?) whether or not you just shampooed your hair.
It’s like that.
