Late night (for me, I work overnight) thoughts. Well, more of a rant.
It's incredibly weird when people try to brush off a show's/movie's criticism with "it's a silly kids' show/movie/it's for kids," as if kids don't deserve proper stories, doubly so for ones with poor endings. Why is constant praise for it perfectly fine, but the moment someone points out its flaws, this idiocracy is rolled out to avoid the conversation that kids are not as dumb as you think?
SPOILER WARNING: It's never okay to have this mindset as we are now facing the consequences of it. We have to be critical of the stories children consume, or we end up with brain-rot content that is now plaguing YouTube due to people not caring about what kids watch to make a quick buck. You start allowing shows to get sloppy or end poorly with nonsensical logic for the world, like Belos' defeat when the show has already shown he has survived worse or Star commiting magical genocide on a fleeting idea, lazy creators will absolutely take advantage of that. You don't care, so why should they? It's less effort on their part. They now expect you to be dumb enough to throw your kid in front of any kind of animation with disregard for the story with nothing to teach knowing you don't have the time or patience to vet what they watch or have a conversation on what happened in the story.
Hell, my mother sat down and talked about "GOOSEBUMPS" plots with me to see what I learned from it when I was young, exercising critical thinking skills and making me realize how important this stuff really is.
My point is this: don't brush off criticism of a show because you think it's silly or "for kids." It's needed, especially because the creators of these properties are adults. Some shows like SpongeBob, Angry Beavers, and Invader Zim, are perfectly okay for not having a deeper story to tell as they still are cleverly written to be a break for the mind and should be sprinkled in here and there, but shows like TOH, GF, Amphibia, Star Vs. and Adventure Time that do and have thought-provoking meta-commentary or characters going through harder, relatable situations need to keep quality consistency throughout.
I can't sit here and pretend Belos' end was great when even my niece, the target audience, complained that it was horribly done just because it's a "silly kids' show." It would be irresponsible to brush that off as her being able to process that level of thought is crucial for her, especially during her development years. She understood that paying attention to details in a show like TOH rewarded those who noticed them and that Belos was fumbled in that sense. To tell her she's wrong or degrade her for it leads to her not caring about the stuff she consumes. I'm happy she was able to identify where a show messed up as it's a lesson she can apply to her own creations for what not to do, even if some adults don't realize how important that really is. Kids are not dumb but pretending they are can have some unwanted results.
hey fellas check out my kin onion
do we like what we see
See, this is what I'm talking about when I say Gravity Falls is an overrated piece of shit ... I was just (trying) to tolerate watching a presumably cis dude in a Don't Hug Me I'm Scared Tshirt doing a video essay on I Saw The TV Glow and of course this prompted him to start talking about dark/weird tv shows and of course he's just listing off all these cartoons (including My Little Pony) for some reason, but then he immediately goes like: "I think I'd describe Gravity Falls as my perfect equivalent to The Pink Opaque" or just like... Immediately saying something stupid along those lines and playing clips of Gravity Falls as he's doing that, but like...
You shouldn't even be bringing up disney/kids cartoons right now... Buffy or Charmed or Xena or something would be more fitting...
If you absolutely had to name drop a surreal/creepy/dark children's/disney cartoon as being "the perfect equivalent to The Pink Opaque"... Star vs. The Forces of Evil is literally right the fuck there and it's not going anywhere? Why the fuck are y'all sleeping on it and what the fuck are you doing? It certainly for sure would've made a better comparison considering Amber Benson, who played Tara on Buffy, at least fucking co-wrote half of all the companion books for svtfoe...Not to mention we have Marco Diaz, not to mention the Trans Marco Theory, not to fucking mention this:
That was storyboarded by the most vocal supporter of Trans Marco Theory on the starcrew, who would later himself come out as a trans man ...
Conclusion? Stop bringing kids cartoons into conversations where they don't belong and also STOP SUCKING DOWN THE EVIL DORITOS CHEESE WHIZ EVERY CHANCE YOU GET! GRABBITY BALLS WAS NEVER AS GOOD AS STAR VS. AND IT NEVER WILL BE! WAKE UP!
UH, YEAH, GUYS???? I DON'T KNOW HOW THE FUCK I MISSED THIS THE FIRST TIME BUT AMBER BENSON, WHO PLAYED TARA ON 'BUFFY' AND WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR CO-WRITING HALF OF ALL THE SVTFOE COMPANION BOOKS, EVEN MADE A GODDAMN FUCKING CAMEO AS ONE OF THE MOM'S IN 'I SAW THE T.V GLOW' ALREADY LIKE???? HELLO????? :D
FUCK I LOVE WHEN I'M RIGHT! PLEASE WAKE UP! THERE'S STILL TIME!!!

You ever just see someone talk about why something you absolutely love is actually terrible and then you rant silently to yourself while pacing around the room for about two hours detailing every single reason and nuance as to why you love that thing in an effort to justify why you ever loved it in the first place?
So anyway, I saw a post about Starco this morning
A redesign of my super old Star vs. The Forces of Evil OC, Sprite Dragonfly!
She was my idea of an Anti/Dark Star that I made back when the show first aired, and before Toffee was introduced. This new design was made with season 2 in mind, however.
