How much for some art tips 🤩?
Get ready for the biggest word-vomit dump you have ever seen.
First off, things to do in preparation to do creative projects or just art in general:
Ensure that you are working in a place of love and passion for your craft, because that will make SURE you'll be able to get through ANYTHING, despite the obstacles.
Don't be super precious in everything you do, especially if you're JUST starting out. Making mistakes is part of the fun.
Don't be hard on yourself if you aren't improving as fast as anyone else. We are all different people and we go through things differently.
Take care of your body and make sure to stretch out your muscles as much as you can, you can definitely hurt yourself if you tense too much while drawing or are in a bad position..
If you're having troubles with something, never be afraid to get help from the people you trust or people who you admire. Nine times outta ten, they'd be glad to help.
For the last point, please know that I am always willing to help out if anyone has any problems or issues regarding their art!! I would love to help! Just shove yourself in my inbox or something, shrugs.
Second part, some good things to keep in mind:
Art is a means of self-expression. Feel free to do whatever you want as long as it doesn't harm yourself or anyone.
There is no idea that isn't worth telling people. Be proud of what you've made and try to roll back on the whole "shame" thing.
Don't be down on your old self for being worse or cringier than you are now. Remember, every artist has their own journey and the beginning is as important as the present. Try and see your old self as a marker of improvement and be proud of it.
Make things that make you happy. Relying on others to give you that 'spark' will result in... well, nightmares.
Okay, we're FINALLY done with allat. Be sure to actually read and keep all of it in mind because its genuinely very important to you as an artist and creator.
Numero uno: HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!
Art is meaningless if you aren't enjoying yourself. Be silly! Put your fav tropes in your art, your writing, whatever!
So you like having fun with art!! that's awesomesauce, dude. But you wanna get better objectively. That's also awesome.
For that, you need to study!! I know, I know, it sucks, but you gotta understand the fundamentals before diving too deep. You'll thank yourself for it.
There's BILLIONS of videos and stuff all about teaching you the fundamentals of art, but these are the ones I think are the most important.
Anatomy: I get it, it's hard to memorize and stuff, but you don't have to know all the technical jargon to be good at anatomy!! I sure as hell don't remember what most of the muscles are or what they do. I just know where they go and their relations with one another.
Form/3d Space: This one is helpful alongside anatomy. Ya gotta know where to put things so they make sense.
Color Theory [Unless you wanna go monochrome]
Basic Lighting.. A lot of peeps forget that. Study where they can come from, subsurface scattering, stuff like that
COMPOSITION GRAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
If you need any resources for these, legit just look stuff up on tumblr or whatever, people LOVE compiling stuff. I usually just look for those and do whatever.
Every artist needs to practice because we're always improving. You could practice by doing figure sketches, tracing and copying art from artists you like/admire*, doodling, redlining**, etc!!
*While this is 100% perfectly valid way of practicing, please do not take any of those and pass them off as your own. It's a pretty dick move and honestly? It makes you look stupid.
**To me, it basically means breaking down the subject/art into its most basic forms and studying how people work/draw
That's basically it! If anyone has any specific things they want me to talk about or wanna ask, I'm always open!!
