Hello my lovely followers! Today, I must ask you a very important favor. I'm co-directing a show for the Hollywood Fringe Festival this year and we desperately need donations! Now I realize you may have some questions and I'll do my best to answer them.
"What's the show you're directing?"
The show is called Star-Cross'd! Spelling's kinda weird, right? Well that's because it's crazy Shakespeare! That's right, this is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. BUT this ain't your everyday "Shakespeare-in-the-park" production, no, this version of Romeo and Juliet is going to be almost entirely Movement/Dance based. Don't get me wrong, we will add some lines from the original text here and there but for the most part, the story will be told through bodies. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! So we've got Romeo and Juliet as an artsy dance piece but what on earth will they dance too? How about the haunting musical talents of Florence + the Machine? Sounds like a pretty badass idea to me, don't know about you guys. To get a better sense of what the show will look like, please watch the video!
"Yeah, that sounds pretty rad. How much money do you need?"
We need $1,850 but we've already made $230! So we need $1,620 to make our goal.
"Whew, that's a lot of money. Why do you need that much?"
Good question. Producing a show is pretty expensive. We need to raise money for the venue rental, marketing, tech (set pieces, costume, make-up, etc.), the registration fee for the festival, and other such nonsense.
"Ah, gotcha. Honestly, why should I even care about this project?"
Well, for lots of reasons! We have a lot to offer everyone!
For my social justice bloggers: We have a cast of 14 and 10 of those 14 are people of color, including our Romeo and Juliet. This may seem insignificant to some of you but it is our goal as a Theatre Company to bring diverse theatre to the Southern California area. (Side Note: The people in our promo vid are all in the cast but none of them play the roles that they played in the promo vid). Romeo and Juliet is also a very male-dominated play but we made sure that our cast was equal parts gentlemen and ladies. 7 and 7 baby! There's only like four women in the original script so...boom.
For my fellow artists: I continuously delight in seeing your work on Tumblr and I hope that you will support me and my art as I start to step out into the "real world" as a theatre artist. I just graduated from Cal State University Long Beach as a Theatre Major with an emphasis in Performance and I'm starting my career. This project will help me get the footing I need to continue on in a very hard profession. Support from the community can really go a long way in helping my dream and the dreams of the Star-Cross'd team come true.
For the Shakespeare, English-buffs out there: So much Shakespeare guys.
For the SYTYCD Fandom: So much dance guys.
For the Florence Fans: So much Florence guys.
For everyone else: So much sexy guys. I promise. So. Much. Sexy. (Please watch above video for a little taste of the sexy)
"Okay, this does sound pretty awesome. How do I donate?"
Glad you asked! We have our very own Indiegogo page here! Donating is super easy but if you can, use paypal to pay! That way we get the money directly and Indiegogo doesn't take a slice of it. Please donate! Even it's just a dollar, every bit helps. If you live in the Los Angeles area you should look into the perks we offer because most of them include tickets to see the show! You should def come out, it's going to be really fun I promise. (Despite all the death.)
"You know, I really want to help you out but I really can't spare any money right now."
Totally understand! Times are rough. You can still help though! I've even made a dandy list for you:
Ways to help if you can't donate-
Like my theatre company, The Half-Shadow Players, on Facebook.
Reblog this!
Post our indiegogo link on Facebook.
Watch the video and tell us what you think!
Basically just SHARE, SHARE, SHARE
Well, I guess that's it. PLEASE REBLOG THIS AND SPREAD IT AROUND!! That helps a lot guys. This is a project I'm deeply passionate about and your support is really appreciated. Thanks guys!
