what do you mean you havent found a job? have you crawled on your knees and prostrated yourself before them? have you hung from the branches of the world tree for eight days and eight nights? have you climbed atop the roodwood cross and begged for them to impale you until your red blood overflow'd their cups? dude. you completely forgot to mention their cups. you HAVE to mention their cups
animation being treated like a genre instead of a medium is something that actually makes me go insane. beauty and the beast is a romance. the emperor's new groove is a buddy comedy. big hero 6 is a superhero movie. moana is an adventure film. the lion king is a drama. treasure planet is sci-fi. if i was talking to someone who hadn't seen these movies before, and they weren't specifically interested in animation as a medium, then i wouldn't necessarily assume they'd enjoy all of these. and that's just disney movies! try telling an anime fan that fruits basket and fullmetal alchemist are the same genre and see how they react!
We joke but the fact NO ONE bats an eye when Penelope and Colin are unchaperoned in broad daylight, or the way they keep to themselves in the corner of balls and other events, speaks a lot of how little the ton considers Penelope as a desirable debutante. Fife and co mock Colin for his friendship with her. Portia catches them alone in a room and somehow doesn't jump on the YOU MUST MARRY train. Even Anthony, albeit s1 Anthony so he's a bit dumb, comments that Colin has danced multiple times with Penelope yet it does not signify.
Side note but I would kill to see his reaction when he hears Colin interrupted Penelope's and Debling's dance lol.
Everyone sees Colin running after Penelope multiple times this season, and everyone assumes it's out of pity, rather than care. Like she's not even the one chasing him, he's the one doing it in all four episodes!
Never in their wildest fantasies could they imagine Colin Bridgerton being interested in Penelope Featherington indeed. And oh boy, are they in for a rude awakening! Because that boy is already loud with his actions when he wasn't even aware of his feelings, but he's gonna be even louder with his words to make sure everyone understands how much Penelope Featherington is beloved by him.
"but hrt will make me gain weight :(" go to the gym and exercise if you're phisically able to. "but hrt will make me skinny :(" eat and bulk. "but hrt will not make me look like a beautiful young hairless twink" GOOD.
I couldn't stop thinking about how shitty Marckus's social skills must have been after years of constant moving and living as a hunter. I imagine he might have been like, genuinely insufferable for a time... and not for no reason. Big D only cares for the hunt, and Door is anathema to the very concept of Social Cues. Without his brother, the only other constant presence in his young life would have been Horse.
Furthermore, I don't think Marckus forgot about his brother, but he did forget about the circumstances around his disappearance. I imagine he has the intelligence to know that his family has been keeping things from him, and considering that Big D likely stopped trusting Marckus after the Norfolk Island Incident, I think Marckus would start to wonder... was his brother's disappearance his fault? If that seed was planted in his mind as a child, what did it grow into as the years went by? Likely something Bitter and Resentful.
Kitten on the other hand, seems to me like the type of person to take responsibility for things that aren't even his fault. I imagine after his time in the Arcanum, he would know that discussing and studying Vampires is a huge risk. While Kitten's Character sheet has been deemed Outdated by the Ogres, we can at least assume that his family being horrifically murdered is still somewhat canon. Its very likely that subconsciously, he blames himself for their murder. Furthermore, we can also assume that the following 2 years he spent in grief-induced isolation must have done a number on him.
What I am getting at, is that Marckus and Kitten were likely vastly different when they first met compared to what they're like currently in the Chronicle.
While their apparent rivalry-turned-romance started from video games, I imagine that the key to them both moving past surface-level shared interests and Childhood nostalgia is their shared grief. Marckus being unable to remember while Kitten wants to forget.
The eventual trust and love they have now could have taken a while to get to that point
...But of course, theres also every chance that they could have both been in a mature place when they both met up again and I'm just blabbering about potential slowburn sdjfsdfdsfds
Getting abused as a child literally rewires the way you see and move through the world and the way that Revolutionary Girl Utena makes that warped vision the reality is probably why I enjoy (or enjoyed as a teen) it over any other media about middle/high school and romance. When you’re a child going through abuse, everything is that scary, dramatic, and unreal. Every relationship becomes a duel when you believe your suffering is eternal. If you’re just a means to an end, isn’t everyone else? You just have to go to school the next day after an event, but at least there is a little reprieve. You trudge through the day knowing the bullshit you have to look forward too. Very few are willing or able to understand what’s going on so you give up on close connection so young to not get your hopes up. Lock everyone else out in the meantime, who cares what anyone else thinks, it’s so cozy in the coffin. Adults are utterly useless. Reality will sooner break apart than you make healthy, long lasting relationships because you are a witch, deserving of eternal torment.
