Stardew Tips for beginners

1. Don't cut your grass until you get a silo

2. Potatoes are a good spring crop

3. Spring onions are located on the bottom left map.

4. Upgrade your watering can the day before it rains, so that you can retrieve it the day after

5. The bag is a good, early investment. It cost 2000 for the first upgrade.

6. Hoard things. Hoard everything. Keep at least 1 of most things

7. Give villagers birthday gifts. Most will accept foraged items. Others will take crops.

8. Fishing is a good source of income (yes, it gets easier)

9. Save money for the Egg Festival and buy a ton of Strawberries. Save some for next spring, plant the rest

10. Don't try to do everything at once. Take your time, play at your own speed. You'll get there eventually.

Star dew tip:

Turn the greenhouse into a winery. Grow repeating crops like strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, grapes and hops. Also grow starfruit

Stardew tip

A chicken coop takes 4000g, 300 wood and 100 stone. A chicken cost 800g. It's a good thing to get late Spring or Summer

Multiple Season Crops

Coffee Beans:

Coffee Beans are a Spring and Summer Crop. Grab it from the Travelling Merchant in Spring and plant it right away; it’s a multi harvest crop and from that one coffee bean you can produce thousands more. Sell the Silver, Gold and Iridium Quality beans and turn the regular beans into coffee using a keg. Coffee is a popular gift amoung most characters and is useful as a speed boost. It comes in handy when you’re running back from the mines or trying to catch a store before it closes.

Corn:

Corn is a Summer and Fall Crop. It’s a multi harvest crop and while on the expensive side as far as crops go, you only have to buy it once at the beginning of summer.

Sunflowers:

A Summer/Fall flower. Sunflowers drop sunflower seeds, so you usually don’t have to buy very many after the initial purchase. Plant near beehives to get honey.

Watering can (5 copper bars, 2000g)

Hoe (5 copper bars, 2000g)

Things to craft/build in your first Spring:

Chests (store tools you're not using. Store crops in another and resources in another)

Furnace (For smelting ores)

Preservation Jar (berries make jelly. Veggies pickle. Use normal crops only; sell the starred crops as is)

Field Snacks (maple seed, pinenut, chestnut)

Scarecrow

Coop (see: Robin)

Try a different play style with the different farm layouts

Standard is good for beginners. It's also great for people that want to max out the amount of crops and animals they have. It has a lot of open space so it's good for both.

Hilltop is best for animals in my opinion. It's also good for Artisan Hoods and people who want to spend less time on crops and more time on making things would there.

Forage is good for crops. It has decent space and a Forage area so you can make wild seeds pretty easy. It has space for an orchard and a bee harm.

River is good for fishing, obviously. Try this layout if you plan on making most of your profit this way. It has a bit of space for crops and animals but not much. It also has enough space for a shed.

Wilderness offers enough space to raise both crops and animals and have artisan goods. On top of that it has the combat part of things, spawning creatures every night. I really like this farm, since it's a bit of a catch all.

Four Corners is pretty even. It has an area for all things. It's a pretty neutral area so this farm is good for people who want to do a bit of everything.
