There lies a trapeze hanging over an abyss,
The souls around us scream something is amiss.
Masks of smiles and cheers hide a crude warning.
Surely the crowd can’t already be mourning?
..............................................................................................................................
Blocking out their cries, there’s only one thing left to do.
Would the souls really mind if I bid them adieu?
Keeping them happy was always such a bother…
As my mask cracks, thoughts threaten to smother.
..............................................................................................................................
The leap, the choice, the plunge into the darkness.
The void I had assumed was so utterly sparkless
Cried out to me in a desperate plea.
“Join me please, I will set you free!”
..............................................................................................................................
Falling faster and harder never crashing down below.
A test of fate, of will, of everything I- no we had sown.
Will we make it? Will we break it? Did we ever have a chance?
Ha! No point in fretting, so would you join me for this dance?
..............................................................................................................................
His hand grasped my own and we’re lost in the flow,
Our souls in sync, a silent shrieking crescendo.
No need for words in this tender embrace,
For nothing warms me like his starlit face.
..............................................................................................................................
But alas, like always, the interlude must come to an end,
Back to the spotlight, where masks we must mend again,
Yet in the parting glance, we formed a wordless pact,
For in the abyss, I found a partner, freedom intact.
..............................................................................................................................
Swinging back up, it’s not the end, I know this.
The masked souls gasping, cheering, throwing me roses.
So as I stand before the souls, hereby ending my “act”.
I smiled at the abyss, and the abyss smiled back.
