      {➹} – WELL, THAT MADE an easy dinner at least, and it was made all the better having a friend there with them. It had been a while since the small family had anyone over for a meal, namely because they didn’t actually cook all that often. Neither of them were terrific chiefs, to say the least. Learning, sure, but there was still plenty of progress to be made. 

     “We’re good with just about anything, honestly. Just nothing too spicy, someone doesn’t like it,” a very obvious thumb was jabbed in the mongoose’s direction and she just shrugged. It was true, and there was no point in arguing with it. 

     She did, however, grin at the younger hedgehog with a subtle quirkiness. “And before you ask, yes pineapple is okay.”

  {➹} – “I DON’T THINK a person in this household would ever turn down a pizza.” If that hadn’t been a clear answer, Arrow didn’t know what was. Given it was the couple’s go-to food when they were too lazy to cook or order something else, they were quite fond of it.

     “They look kinda cute tied back though.”

     While Volt had already called it a night and was fast asleep. The village wasn’t completely empty in the wee hours of the morning. 

     There were a few villagers who had been privy to those actions made by the blue speedster. A larger Mobian, an older four horned goat only looked at the troublemaker on the ground with a nod of his head. 

     Hopefully the small wave of his hand would be enough of a incentive for Sonic to head back to the Inn, where a certain older hybrid would likely be looking for him if he woke up to an empty bed. Plus the hero did not need to see what was about to become of the Masked Mobian that once again forgot that Sternenberg was also known as the village of fuck around and find out. 

     “Mein vife vill be by later to check on you.” Meaning the small family and Sonic. “If you ask nicely, she vill vatch for day or two if you vould like a change of scenery.”

     Edgar wasn’t one to talk often, but the smile on his face was a knowing one as he walked over and grabbed the Masked Mobian by the ankle and began to walk away. Where? Towards the nearby mines...

     The wind carried a comment of ‘I vonder how high you bounce vhen dropped down mineshaft’...

Sonic didn't know what was said as he came into the room after hearing another disturbance, but the sight of Volt slumped against the door was more than alarming. "Volt??" He rushed over, kneeling down in front of his friend. A hand coming under the hybrid's chin to gently tilt it up so he could search violet eyes. "Are you okay? What happened?"

     Honestly Volt hadn’t planned to spend too much time sitting there on the floor. Just long enough to get his head in the right space before trying to finish the last bit of cleaning that needed to be done in the lobby. But maybe he had lost track of time while staring ahead of him and considering the stranger’s words. 

     At least he was until the gentle touch came to his face and his violet eyes finally focused on the face in front of his own. He blinked, barely registering the lone tear that had managed to escape down his cheek. 

     “I..” After swallowing the lump in his throat and shaking his head to rid that one echoing word within his mind, Volt leaned forward and took the hand holding his chin in his own. “Nonnies got a little mouthy again... I’ll be alright.”

     He brought the hand to his lips and kissed it. “Thanks for checkin’ on me.”

After tea, and doing whatever else needed to be done to get ready for bed, Sonic made sure to get himself nice and comfortable with his friend. An arm draped over Volt's torso, holding him close while Sonic buried his face in the hybrid's chest fur. Warm. Happy. Purring.

     It was hard to tell their purrs apart, but Volt had no complaints about their current sleeping arrangements. One arm had settled around Sonic to also keep him close while they slept. 

     Not to mention his tail moved to cover their tangled legs. A perfect way to end the night if he said so himself.

Now it was Sonic's turn to wrap his arms around Volt, squeezing him tight while nestling his muzzle into the crook of the hybrid's neck. It had certainly been a long night of near constant harassment and Sonic was getting worried. "Don't let them get to you. C'mon back inside an' I'll make us some tea..."

     Having been so focused on the Masked Mobian still being held by the throat, Volt had initially flinched at the arms settling about his chest. It had only been a split second, but he knew those arms and in the same moment of releasing his harasser; all but sank into his friend’s arms. That warmth of the other being so close was like a blanket of safety that melted away all of his negative emotions in one full swoop.

     A purr followed the gentle nuzzle and his organic fingers settled over Sonic’s arm. Violet eyes glanced to the side to meet the shimmer peridot with a smile. 

     “That’s usually my line…” Despite that, Volt was easily led back into the Inn. The only time he paused was to close the doors behind him for the night. No more random visitors that didn’t know the village etiquette.
