You’re probably thinking more along the lines of romantic pairings but since I’m the one who always requests Bobby, can I request Bobby and Dean, words of affirmation?
Thanks
(I don't mind doing gen at all for the record! And I love me some Dean & Bobby. )
"Try again." Bobby tossed the ball back and Dean caught it just at the tips again. His eyes were squinted shut against the son and his lips set in a serious line.
Carefully, he threw the ball back and hit the center of Bobby's glove.
"Good job, son!" Bobby grinned, tossed it back.
It was an offhanded sort of comment. The kind of thing that people don't remember specifically. Not who else was at the park or why they were there or even exactly how old Dean was. It was just one of those things that happens in a long string of happenings.
Except Dean remembered. The smell of the glove, the way Bobby had stuck his own cap on Dean's head when the sun got to bad and how he never told Dean off for throwing wide or missing.
They were just words, Dean knew that. Words anyone could say. But it was Bobby who said them. On the baseball field, at target practice, bent over the engine of a 52' Chevy that wasn't anything like the Impala. Words mixed in with other phrases like,
"Good idea" and "I'm glad you came by today" and "That was smart"
Stupid things. Things other people said and never thought twice about them. But after Bobby was gone, really gone, those were the things that Dean thought about.
Those were the things that mattered.
