X-MEN 97 Spoilers AHEAD: Ep Danger.exe
I'm putting the content of this under a read more just incase I miss a tag. I don't want to spoil shit for people. GO WATCH THE NEW EPISODE IF YOU CAN!
Not gonna lie, after watching so much of Nikhil I was expecting an Arcade thing but the Danger Room becoming "sentient" more or less was...sure. I remember that being a thing.
The episode being a Lorna spotlight was a change but I do wish it didn't come down to Chuck deciding to quite literally project her father onto her. I'm hoping she gets a chance to be herself without her story revolving around a man, like it did here and in the og show.
Speaking of which, Havok is....idk but I really wanted something with him and Scott cause they are brothers and it's never addressed. Does he even care his brother isn't dead? OR is he too much of a boy scout right now?
More of Bishop is good seeing him struggle to relate to what amounts as privilege of learning in a classroom versus the streets. There did seem something between him and Lorna, I'm hoping a good power pairing.
Storm giving Bishop a power up is something but why couldn't she help the kid? I like that she's the headmistress, let the woman teach. I do wonder what she'll do when she learns what happened to Remy.
Speaking of our beloved Cajun, Pocky (yes that's what I'm calling him lol) finally did the thing we've been waiting for since the teaser last season. The man is back and he's Death. The transformation was horrific with only silhouettes. The way his cards changed into tarot cards was absolutely amazing. The Queen of Hearts becoming the Lovers, a card that looked like it had him and Rogue on it was just perfect. Remy's eyes are the same at first I thought the sclera had turned read and irises black but nope. His teaser looked like a palette swap and I hope they do something else too but either way I'm glad he's back.
Someone did a read on the cards from a tarot standpoint but I couldn't repeat it if I tried. Someone else pointed out the symbolism on the cards and THAT I can talk about.
Card one: Death: Your traditional Grim Reaper design holding 3 cards and a scythe. So the 3 cards obviously alluding to Remy's card gimmick and the fact that tarot readings are traditionally 3 cards. Death carries a scythe sure, but Remy also uses a bo staff. I suspect this was the Ace of Spades as the Ace of Spades is traditionally associated with death.
Card two: The Tower: Traditional tower imagery (look it up if you need to see it). This one is less obvious but someone kindly pointed out that X-Corp is a Tower. That's really all there is for that one.
Card three: The Lovers: This card shows two figures resembling Remy and Rogue. Someone pointed out a skeleton but I couldn't see it. But this card formerly being the Queen of Hearts, a card Remy associates with Rogue and is the card Pocky dug out of the rubble. The same Card we see Rogue with in the teaser for the season.
Love appears to be a theme among this season actually. Different types of love, not just romantic/sexual (rose). Familial love in Rogue and Kurt (though I'd have like to see more with them), in Scott, Jean and Cable, in even Lorna trying to deal with her father's legacy. There is rose love too, in Morph and Wolverine (not reciprocated), it seems Charles and Erik even (thought that could be a qpr and not rose), and yes in Rogue mourning Remy.
I think this season will play with the idea that love saves people. The sad thing with Morph not being loved enough by Wolverine (which was a stupid decision on the part of the writers) sets up for Rogue's love of Remy saving him. The only question is how? How will this work? We were reminded she could do it by Angel, whose evil she took into herself and dealt with his traumas.
Actually let's talk about how each episode can tie back to Remy. (forgive lack of titles on some)
Episode 1- The Future: We don't see Remy but the end alludes to Pocky going back to revive him.
Episode 2- The Present: Again we don't see him, but we do see his casket (it's not a coffin people); Further this is where we get the remind that Rogue can reverse the brainwashing.
Episode 3&4- The Past: I'm putting these together as they are a two parter. Anyway Kandra aka the External makes an appearance in both. What makes this Remy related? Kandra's only appearence in the OG show was X-Ternally Yours, an episode about Remy's past that ends with "I am not thief or assassin. I am an X-man and I'm never coming back" after he told Kandra to take Belladonna's powers but not her life (For more info see my post about her.)
Episode 5: Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs (yes I did remember this one); This one is a bit harder because really the only thing I can say is the idea that love can be used to pull someone out of a rage or something similar. It's a bit flimsy, sure, but given the prominence of the Queen of Hearts and the Lovers, I'm sure the idea is important. It also features a transformation from which someone must be saved. Alternatively, the Brood sort of appeared in the og show having turned Cody, Rogue's first bf, into a monster. This episode also showed Remy's love for Rogue showing up to her asking if she'd not rather have "the real thing" in reference to love and adventure. (Ok not as hard lol)
Episode 6: Danger.exe; Aside from the stuff above, we also return to Genosha where he died and see Lorna destroy Danger in much the same way Remy destroyed the Sentinel Kaiju.
So the next are gonna be my predictions:
Episode 7- seems like the Savage Land will make an appearance or reference. Not hard to tie that to Rogue and Remy, it's were they had their first actual kiss. They were powerless and captured by Sinister, it's also were he told her he loved her.
Episode 8- Dead Man's Hand; so the actual hand is aces and 8's but this is clearly going to involve Deathbit.
Episode 9- I'm assuming our finally will defeat Pocky and possibly return Remy to "normal" but if they follow the Phoenix route, he'll likely come back somewhere else possibly without memory possibly with hella guilt. (my bet's on guilt cause that man will feel it all).
ALSO: I wish Disney would make those cards for real cause I need them.
OK so that was a lot. If you read it all, thanks I guess.
