Hey @frosted-night, @sp00kfr0st, you know that starglass hc you came up with? I have some more stuff to add to it!
-You have to apprentice a craftsperson for about 5 years to be able to work with it as a profession (you start out with regular glassblowing techniques then learn the Secret™️ of preserving a dream within the sand whilst it melts into glass)
-In addition to preserving dreams, you can store MEMORIES in the form of dreams! (Dream of a memory, then it can be preserved)
-The glass covering Mother Nature’s portrait in the locket is definitely starglass and has her sweetest memories with her father preserved
-Because of how protective Star Captains are of their stars, it can be hard to convince one to allow some of their star to be solidified, so it’s really expensive and only the very VERY wealthy of the Golden Age can buy a preserved dream
-Except for the royalty, for the royal families they do special commissions at a lower price (the glass window ports of the Moon Clipper are definitely starglass bc obviously)
-The glassblowers are adept at preserving the dream’s original shape in glass, going so far as to sculpt it almost effortlessly into the most whimsical of shapes
-To reveal the dream, one must simply shine a light through the glass onto a blank background like a projector, then the dream will play out almost like a home movie
-There are also dream mirrors, which let you replay whatever dreams you had last night when looking at yourself in them
-If you’ve never dreamed (like Nightlight), the mirror only reflects yourself and acts as if it’s made of regular glass
-If a piece is broken off or if the glass splinters/shatters, the dream distorts or won’t even be playable
-And if the sand is corrupted before it’s turned into glass it looks like obsidian (think that one scene in the movie where Jack freezes a nightmare onto the roof)

For the @interlorebrary-loans eyes prompt!
Short lore thing about Hypnos and friends! It conveniently turned into a 5+1 bc I had enough lightning dragons. This all started bc “a kin” was used instead of “akin” so now she is more family to the lightning peeps than just being like lightning flights. Okay so have Hypnos talking about her friends and their eyes!
Oh your eyes are so alive and blue, What do I have to do to be like you?
Hypnos does not understand how she gained such amazing friends. There were all so bright and full of energy even without augments. She feels faded out standing next to their bright lights, but despite her doubts, she still feels like she shares a connection to each of her lightning friends.
I.
They twinkle with such light. Starglass’ blue eyes are less like rolling storms and more like a cold sky. Crisp and airy where someone can just bask in the sun, or even the light of the night. Sometimes her eyes glow just a bit too dangerously. Like a sky threatening to riot, they turn stormy and grey. Her eyes turn foggy and threaten to consume all the clear blue in Starglass’ eyes much like how her magic wants to consume the world around it. What can Hypnos do to save her sister from this thunderous danger?
II.
Paralyzing, as if your very core struck was struck and frozen. Epiphany’s eyes had a quality that just pins you in your place. They are sharp and cutting. Those eyes slowly cut away at your defenses and try to dig in to see the true you. Hypnos is ensnared in their friendship in the best of ways. Even just sitting with Epiphany, they share a close bond, one that Epiphany just understands. When Hypnos reaches back out to Epiphany, can she feel that she is not unknowable?
III.
Lightning in a bottle or even just light contained within a vessel. Thistle’s eyes look like they cannot contain her essence and wild excitement. It jumps out at everyone she looks at and infects them with her charm. With every drink and show of magic, Hypnos can feel the jolts of manic energy to her toes. Does Thistle know how terrific her light is when she looks distant when she thinks no one is watching?
IV.
Steady and more constant than the others. Delphinium’s eyes are bright and powerful. They are the same electric blue no matter the instance. They are nearly the same shade of blue no matter the light, it’s as if they don’t change or differ. Except when there is a slight glint in her eyes whenever Delphi finds glee in what she’s doing. How can Hypnos coax Delphi to experience more of that light happiness?
V.
The newcomer has lightning eyes that reflect a young rage. They sometimes flash with hidden depths and power, like a gentle rain shower turned thunderstorm. Yet, other times, they are that simple blue of the lightning clan. They are guarded and still hesitant to settle into the clan. She hopes that Ronan will strike the boundaries he places on himself and join the rest of the clan. Is there a way to help him feel more at ease?
+I
Truly the windows of the soul: Hypnos’ eyes mirror her thoughts so clearly. Eyelids droop over darkening green eyes when the day has stretched just a bit too long. They light up with their own sort of fire when she is in the forges, reflecting more than just the fires she lit, but also the passion for the job she has undertaken. Hypnos’ eyes even have their own spark of lightning when she finds herself surrounded with friends to add their own bit of light. After all,
Hypnos, don’t you see? Your soul is alight just as much as ours, trust me.

Starglass by Phoebe North
Challenge #38 ~ “Two books that are related to each other as a pair of binary opposites: Book #2 – ‘FUTURE’ "
★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
My opinion in three sentences:
North offers a fresh take on some familiar tropes, with a focus you don't see in your average YA sci-fi rebellion fic. As a stand alone, the pacing was rather sedate with things not picking up much plot-wise until halfway through, but I'm hopeful this world-building will pay off in the rest of the trilogy. The characters may not have been the most loveable, either, but I'm still eager to read on (which has to count for something, right?)
So I started Starglass by Phoebe North, which is about a spaceship that’s been traveling for hundreds of years toward a new planet, and the society aboard is clearly meant to be dystopian. It’s like City of Ember + Judaism, in space, but the use of Judaism is like....weird. Like, there is something SO wrong with this society and I can’t even imagine how they reached this point.
