can u do a tutorial on those galaxy backgrounds for the homestuck paintings? theyre so amazing!!
HOW DO YOU MAKE THOSE GALAXY SKIES WITH THE COPICS SO WELL LIKE HOW DO YOU BLEND IT SO GOOD ;;;;0;;;;
Well comrade, here we go for a quick tutorial !
All you’re gonna need is :
- pens to do the line
-a white-gel-pen
-a sheet of paper or any kind of support as long as it’s something were markers works
-alcohol markers, or any kind of B-pen I guess it also works ?
First, you just have to take a sheet of paper, some pens for the line and a white gel pen because you’ll need it later (do not pay attention to my desk it’s… quite messy)
Next, doodle anything you want. usually I do a character but it can be anything, a building, a tree, a pineapple, whatever you want ! just know what you want to show on your drawing.
Then, you can ink your doodle. You can let some spaces blank to keep some effects later during the colorisation ! You have to know that this silhouette (here a character) will stay WHITE. Thats what you’re gonna put in relief.
For the next step, you’re gonna need markers. I use Copics sketch, but I tink that any kind of marker can be fine (never tried with something else than alcohol market, but it might work with things like color pens ? Or things like faber castell, any kind of B-pen ?)
Choose wisely your colors : I recommand 2 colors darker, 2 medium one with close shades and a lighter, for the glowing-effect.
For all the steps that will come, you will have to be quick ! Start with the corners with the darker color, and add all your shades by making small-traces-with-your-marker. The light and pale colors will be the nearest to the place where your lightning come from.
So be quick, adding all your shades and…
…you’ll have something like that.
Now it’s gonna be the time to blend and add all the shades and details to your drawings !
By using the flexible side of the marker (that’s why i’m using copics, they’re good for that), blend everything, to have some kind of gradient from the darker side of your picture to the lighter ! You can also fill some part of your drawing (such as the star or the chains) if you want to, and make it… deeper.
I usually don’t think a lot when i’m doing this, it just have to seem natural and satisfying when you’re doing it. If you’re not happy, try again, add shadows, it can take 5mn to 30 if needed !
Then, take you white-gel-pen…
….and play with the light !
You have your picture done, with a messy-starry sky !
Be proud of yourself, and I hope this tutorial would have been useful !
