hawkins, indiana was by no means an exciting town to live next to; especially for a college student. sure it had its charm, but it wasn’t anything spectacular. this being said, weekly movie nights had become a norm for you and your friends.
every thursday you were tasked with driving over to the family video and picking out the movie of the weekend. the best part of it was him: steve harrington. since the beginning of the semester you’d spent every thursday afternoon spending far too much time picking out a movie and talking to him, but who could really blame you when the guys on campus had nothing on him? he was handsome, polite, funny, charming and had decent taste in movies whenever you couldn’t decide on something.
today was an average thursday: class in the morning and go to family video in the afternoon. you sat in your car for a few minutes in the parking lot of family video as you checked your appearance before heading in. the door buzzed as you walked in, met with the sight of steve’s smiling face.
“right on schedule as always,” he says with a smirk.
you laugh softly as you make your way to the counter to return last week’s movie. “and miss seeing my favorite family video employee? never.”
steve quirks a brow as he checks in the movie. “a new hope? i didn’t take you for a star wars fan.”
“i am a little bit” you reply with a shrug before continuing “a bunch of our boyfriends were visiting this weekend so i wanted to get something that everyone would like.”
his face fell slightly at that “oh… yeah… i’m sure your boyfriend liked it.”
you blushed slightly at the implication and brushed a piece of hair behind your ear. “oh no, i don’t have a boyfriend”
steve perked up slightly at that, “you don’t?”
you shook your head in response, causing him to smile.
“i could change that you know” he flirts casually.
you meet his eyes, a small smile widening slightly. “could you?”
he nods, grinning “yeah, i could.”
“maybe i’ll have to take you up on that…” you say as you trail off as you pretend to think it over.
“i promise i’m good for more than my taste in movies.” he adds with a cheeky grin, only to be met with your soft chuckle. “oh i should hope so”
he looks at his watch, noting the time. “i get off in a little over an hour, what do you say i buy you dinner and we get to know each other better?”
“that sounds great” you reply with a smile.
“perfect, so that means you have an hour to pick the perfect movie for this weekend and then you’re mine.” steve says with a smirk, causing you to roll your eyes. “or i could always come back tomorrow and get one.”
steve’s smirk widened at that “or i could be a part of movie night and surprise you with one of my choice tomorrow.”
you smile brightly as you tease him “you know girls night movie night invites are strictly a boyfriend thing, right?”
“i believe you mentioned it before” he replies cheekily before continuing “i’m fairly certain i’ll pass the test, now go pick something out in case you hate what i bring over tomorrow.”
you turn and head to look down one of the many aisles of movies with a big smile on your face. you were actually going to go on a date with steve harrington, or as the girls knew him: the guy at family video with the good hair.
