“You’re not a planet anymore.” Or so they said to her.

Apparently, Earth’s humans had decided upon themselves on how to define a planet:

The object must be in orbit around the Sun.

The object must be massive enough to be a sphere by its own gravitational force. More specifically, its own gravity should pull it into a shape of hydrostatic equilibrium.

It must have cleared the neighborhood around its orbit.

She passed rule one and two, but three? Pluto was small, she knew that. She would never be strong or big enough to clear her orbit. The planet dwarf planet had always felt jealous of Jupiter and Saturn’s size, but never more than that moment.

 Earth gave her a few pitying words, but he was clumsy with his half-apologies, half-excuses.

 Pluto ran.

And as she ran, the planet furthest from her spot in space joined her frantic race away from the disappointment.

“Pluto? Hold up, just talk to me, please.” “Go away.” Her voice was barely a choked whisper. If she had to look someone else in the face to hear how oh so sorry they were, she was afraid she would cry/scream/punch them in the belly.

Mercury easily kept up with her sprinting, long legs used to his advantage. If he wanted to, he could shoot of, faster than fast. She knows. She’s seen him in orbit around the Sun.

“Hey now, slow down! I can’t keep up!” Mercury tried joking.

Pluto let her silvery hair cover her face. She didn’t want him to see her tiny quirk of a smile.

After an unknown amount of time spent running, they just stopped. Her legs and lungs were aching but she never felt more… alive. Not Earth-alive, just alive in this weirdest sense. Pluto begins to understand why Mercury enjoys this so much.

“You wanna talk?”

He said it in a way that doesn’t make her want to curl up into the far corners of space alone.

“Yeah. Let’s talk.”

Later, he would say to her that he still thinks she's the most beautiful planet in the Solar System. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

By the end of the brawl, Jupiter ended up with multiple bruises, a gash on his cheek, and a somber mood.

He honestly should have seen it coming. In a way, Jupiter did. How could anyone not notice the red planet’s envious glares, the way his burning eyes screamed “You don’t deserve him you don’t don’t don’t”

Of course Jupiter knew about Mars and Earth’s relationship before it was abruptly ended by the latter. The whole system knew about the turbulent bond. However, Jupiter doesn’t pry or force Earth to talk about the details.

All he knew was that Earth was happy with his current relationship with both Mars and him. Earth was content being just friends with Mars.

Mars did not agree.

The assault came hard and fast, and as soon as it started, it finished. Jupiter was massive; he knew he could easily defeat the smaller celestial body. Instead, he turned his other cheek. And Mars seemed to realize this, because the next moment he was leaving, looking like he was the one with the injuries.

Talking about injuries, Earth wasn’t supposed to see them.

“Jupe. What happened? Who did this?”

The gas giant avoided Earth’s anxious gaze, reminded of that day when the smaller planet found him nursing a burn mark left by a wayward comet.

Earth’s face twisted from worry, to realization, to anger, and back again in a cycle. “It was Mars wasn’t it.”

Jupiter did not confirm nor deny it.

One of Earth’s hands reached up to carefully trace the edges of the wound on the other's face. "We have to get you fixed up again, huh?" He chuckled humorlessly.

When, Jupiter didn't respond, Earth bit his lip before reaching up to press a soft kiss to his lips.

"I love you"

And even when Earth looked after his injuries, those words were the thing to heal him the most

Sometimes, Earth likes nothing more than to talk about the life inhabiting him to anyone who will listen.

Unfortunately for him, the whole solar system knew his tendency to ramble on and on and on about anything his mind sets itself on. And they avoided him like crazy whenever that happens.

Except for Jupiter.

The giant planet was known for his patience, but being able to sit and listen through one of Earth's long-winding talks? Outrageous.

But Jupiter enjoyed listening to Earth.

"And did you know that The Great Barrier Reef is the largest organic structure on me? Like, the Burj Khalifa is tall, but my humans made that, with their own hands. They only want to go higher, though..."

"Mmhm" Jupiter hummed. He and Earth were lying on their backs, side to side. Nothing but limitless space around them. The far off twinkle of unknown stars teased them of unknown galaxies and strangers.

Earth gently nudged his tall friend in the side. "I hope I'm not boring you or anything. 'Cause if I am, I could stop..."

"No, no." Jupiter reached a hand over to carefully brush his hand trough Earth's water-blue hair. The living planet smiled affectionately, rolling unto his side to rest his head against Jupiter's shoulder.

"Alright. Let me no if you are bored, ok?"

Jupiter only smiled and shook his head, feeling fond of the little planet who he thought so preciously of. The blue strands of hair still slipping past his fingers had a tint of green if he looked close enough.

"What else do you wanna know?"

Hearing the question, the gas giant huffed with laughter. 

"About you? Everything."

continuing my milky way fandom headcannons now for the OUTER CIRCLE and also sun

Jupiter is just tall as fuck. he's a gentle giant because that seems to be the fandom's interpretation of him. i imagine him being real chill and sort of like a cool bro but if you threaten any of the inner circle guys especially Earth he will go NUCLEAR ON UR ASS

Saturn is Jupiter's friend and she wants to help everyone out but really she's just as lost as they are. she has a ridiculous love for jewelry AND pets and she's nearly as big as Jupiter but can bench-press more than him. she just doesn't say this so not to hurt any feelings

and then there's Uranus who is like the weird cousin everyone has. you say tomato he says salsa idk what he's even thinking. only his sis Neptune can bear to hang out with him for long times and even then he'll probably end up switching clothes with her

Neptune ahh yes. she's totes a badass chick who don't care what u think. she enjoys long walks in freezing storms and skinny-dipping in icy waters wow what a babe.

PLUTO AHH. alright she's small and quiet and has the personality of a mouse. i think the fact that she's not considered a planet anymore was a huge blow to her self-esteem and she's terrified she won't be remembered anymore. so whenever someone even mentions her name she's like "omg thank u so much i hope u and ur family have great lives amen"

finally the Sun aka big mama Sunny. she is the bees-knees, the cat's pajamas, the nicest person you'll ever meet as long as u behave. i think she says she doesn't have favorites but secretly Mercury always gets the extra cookie

woops inner circle milky way fandom headcannons yEAH

little Mercury is just completely hyper-active and the biggest mama's boy. he's just running every were going "hEY GUYS WATCH ME CARTWHEEL OVER VENUS HAHA GOTTA GO FAST" and sometimes he chases after Venus.

Venus is a hottie with a body daaayum. as earth's twin she can be rather nosy at times but mostly if it's for matters of the heart winkwink nudgenudge. She's buddies with Mars, Mercury, and Earth and if you hurt them god help u 'cuz she will be after ur blood.

Earth is a prECIOUS BABY OK. he's just really smart and nerdy and insanely curious about everything wow. His best bro is Mars and after finding out what Jupiter's done for him he has a crush on him heheh. 

Mars is an angst ball admit it. he's grumpy and short and will try to beat u into a pulp if u insult any of his inner circle friends. he might've had a crush on Earth especially after curiousity but sigh yeah. also he has piercings dang.

the moon is a dog. Earth's named her Luna and he just spoils her rotten.
