Colorado Gothic

•The mountains tower over you in the early morning fog. They are calling you, their faces ablaze. What is your name again? •Garden of the Gods is the place where giants rest. Their fingers reaching above the surface, stained by the blood of the universe. The old gods will be arisen anew. •Plenty of homeless people walk 16th street. They all smile and beckon to the showtime piano. You sit and stare at the keys before beginning a haunting melody. Gradually people come to watch and toss money into your mason jar. •Gold Camp Road, tunnel number 3. You take your friends on an outlandish excursion to investigate the rumors. Your lights begin to fail and the air turns damp. You turn to your friends and smile but they don’t notice you. You drag your fingers across the car as they drive away from you. Are they going to send help for the bus crash? •"If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute!“ You aren’t sure where you first heard that but it has since proven to be true. You wait a minute as the sun comes closer and closer, enveloping the plains in bright red flames. •Club sports are a big part of high school! Remember when you kicked your first goal? And that girl you like looked at you in disgust? And you continued to kick that same goal over and over, each time looking up? For some reason, she began to look like your mother. •"It’s because district funding scarce” your principal tells you after you remind him of the broken water fountains. They’ve always been broken according to the pictures shown to you on the brand new SMARTboards™. •You walk along a familiar street. You see a building that you’re sure wasn’t there before. You walk faster, confused. You stumble. See a flash of green. A neon leaf glows in the corner of your eye. You’re running now, and you’ve come to your front door. You look up to see the looming storefront of a dispensary. This is your home now.
