"Hey, are you a Jedi? I heard some people in town saying you had powers like a Jedi." Obi-Wan tried to speak slowly, but he knew he was failing. He was too curious to have any patience and also short on time! His field trip was due to be over at sundown and he needed to be back at camp at least an hour beforehand or else his clan might be penalized. The creche masters were very strict, even more so now that they were so far away from Coruscant.

"And hi! I'm Obi-Wan, I'm visiting from At Attin for school stuff." A cover story he had not gotten to use nearly enough on their weekend away and he was more than excited to use again. It had been announced when they arrived on Felucia that they were not only going to learn about its tropical forests, but also how to not act like a Jedi. Quinlan had quickly asked about lying being bad and Master Vant had rolled her eyes before explaining that these days, it was important for Jedi to learn how to blend in with a crowd and that they weren't lying so much as acting, playing a game.

Obi-Wan was pretty sure they were somehow going to be graded, so he memorized his (very short) script from front to back.

Kyan had been dozing off in the back of the ship when he'd been woken up out of his slumber by bright red flashing lights. Bright blue hues snapped to attention as he quickly assessed his situation. Whatever it was, it wasn't good. He stood to his feet, heavy boots slamming against the metal floor before he made his way up to the cockpit.

"What is going on?" His voice was gravely still from sleep. It only took one look from Auden, the man piloting the ship, for Kyan to realize they were in deep shit. "The ship? Something's wrong with the fucking ship? For fucks sakes!" He pushed his way to look at the screens to see what was exactly wrong. His blood ran cold.

"Nearest planet. Now."

"Sure thing, Ky, but it's not going to be a gentle landing." Bjorn, the co-pilot said.

"Better a rough landing than fucking dead in space." Kyan countered.

"Yes, but ... go buckle up." Auden said with a sigh. Kyan wasn't known to be hot headed, but when he was angry ... it shined.

"Yeah. You're right." He mumbled before sitting into one of the five seats: the others occupied by Carver and Dutch. He buckled himself in and prepared for landing.

"You know much about Felucia?" Bjorn asked as he set up the coordinates as quickly as possible. All the while the lights flickered on and off in panic.

"Not a damn thing, but we'll figure it out when we get there." Kyan said. His tone indicated that he wanted everyone to be silent now and so they were. He closed his eyes, focusing his energy on the ship, but more importantly on the people around him. They were going to be okay.

He only opened his eyes when he heard the sound of metal crushing in on itself. They hadn't been lying when they'd said it wasn't going to be a smooth landing, but one look over his men and he could see they were all very much alive and unharmed.

"Seems like there's a small village nearby." Kyan said as he unbuckled himself. He felt only slightly unsteady on his feet. "Let's go there and see if they can point us in the right direction of getting some parts for this damn ship." With that, he was getting off the ship and so began their trek to the small village. Kyan could sense someone there. Someone who was powerful in the force and he was sure his men could feel it too, but he'd worry about that if it became a problem and right now it didn't seem like a threat.

"He's a ten..." Nil-Rae picks at her fingernails as though to feign disinterest, despite the fact that she's volunteering this interaction in the first place. "But he's married to his job."

He was surprised by her (backhanded) compliment, but he appreciated it and it was probably good for their relationship if they focused on what they admired about each other rather than let history keep on being a looming shadow above their heads. "Being diligent is nothing bad in my book. Aren't you your village's steadfast and brave protector?"

To say his relationship with Nil-Rae was tumultuous would be an understatement. With war looming on the horizon, Obi-Wan had no choice but to swallow his concerns and travel to Felucia as the Council dictated. They weren't wrong to send Obi-Wan, he at least knew her, on a surface level, and Felucia was a crucial planet. With the headquarters of the Commerce Guild headquarters located there and the guild's alignment questionable, which role will Felucia play?

"That's a lovely village," he said rather lamely in lieu of a greeting when he arrived, though Obi-Wan actually meant it. Felucia's climate wasn't the most comfortable but the village was cozy.

"Something I've noticed..." Kil-rae starts, glancing pointedly at the lightsaber on the other's belt. "...is that soldiers don't tell war stories anymore. Because wars these days? It's about trying to live through them."

"War stories are for proud people, my dear. And I'm afraid even if we win this war, well, it won't be much of a victory at all." The Republic had already sacrificed so much—given up so much of their ground—Obi-Wan didn't know what else there was to lose. The Separatists could keep tossing their credits at droid squadrons and empty bribes, but what the Republic had was finite and they were already drained, of morals, of rights to violate, and of planets to strip bare from their resources. The galaxy was bleeding and it was becoming harder with each passing moment to believe they were the good guys. "If I could, I would choose not to speak a word of it again either."

the question is posed with such sincerity that,   combined with the sheer absurdity of the announcement which preceded it,   george finds himself caught off guard.     he’s waiting for fred to find a book in the library     (   best to divide and conquer when they’re attempting to acquire a tome necessary for a future prank,   lest they arouse suspicion before they can even begin on their preparations   )     as he leans against the cool stone of the courtyard pillar,   occupying himself with watching two ravenclaws play gobstones.     not exactly the most thrilling game,   but far better than pacing about in boredom until his twin returns.    

this mental stumble backwards is quickly righted as george realizes exactly WHAT katie’s words mean for him,   and he cannot help the immediate groan which escapes his lips.     “     wood’s gone mad,   expecting us to practice in this weather.     it’ll be raining all night.     ”     george is far from a poor sport,   rarely whinging and usually willing to go along with most of their captain’s crazy schemes without as much lip as he would like to give him on occasion,   but his idea of an ideal weekend is decidedly not spending it on his cleansweep five,   soaking wet and shivering in his quidditch robes.    

still,   there isn’t much either of them can do when oliver wood wants to schedule an extra - extra practice session.     not even dumbledore himself could stop him at this point.     “     least you've got an out.     he couldn’t get to you if you hid out in the girls’ dormitory     [ ... ]     ‘course,   i wouldn’t be surprised if he managed to find a way in there just to scream his head off.     ”
