so i recently got pulled into my boyfriends current hyperfixation Murderbot and it's actually a good series.
Murderbot as a character is not only a believable and good character but it is a fucking mood.
yes you heard me correctly murderbot is non-binary (agender i think?) its pronouns are it/its for those that want to get into the series because of that sort of stuff go ahead, the series does include and integrate other non-standard pronouns but does it in a way that does not feel confusing.
Murderbot as a character is without a doubt the "autistic robot" trope done CORRECTLY, unlike other writers that have used the "autistic robot" trope Martha Wells made Murderbot a 3D character when it comes to its habits and dynamics.
for example (without spoiling the story) Murderbot does not feel comfortable without its armour/helmet on to separate itself from humans, when Murderbot has downtime or grows anxious it will start looking through its archive of downloaded media as a form of stimming.
Murderbot when it comes to humans is.. well awkward but Murderbot like most autistic people have a way to cope with the awkwardness, when it comes to what Murderbot does it will try to switch to a security camera feed
now what exactly is Murderbot? well if you're familiar with servators from Warhammer 40k, think a more clean version of that with a degree of thought capability that servators do NOT have.
SPOILERS!!
Murderbot called itself Murderbot having borked up its own governor unit accidentally giving itself free will, instead of going on a murderous rampage you might see bots do on TV Murderbot instead spends its time browsing its universes version of the internet commonly downloading media into its own body to watch, listen or read.
Murderbot in terms of sexuality is asexual this makes sense consider Murderbot is a security construct and not a sexbot (murderbot is as smooth as a ken doll), the thought of sex does not make Murderbot puke it just makes it really uncomfortable and outright offended if you press it.
i highly recommend the series if you like a sci-fi series that is well written with characters that actually feel alive instead of just cookie cutter stereotypes.
