Strangers like me {Ciaran and Blake}
Blake didn't want to say anything, yes she may no longer be where her people are hated for being what they are, but she can't just trust that people here won't treat her just the same as they did back home. So she still wore that ribbon upon her head hiding the ears that she had. As long as the ribbon remained she would be fine, she would be free to live normally, well as normally as a teenage soldier can.
She tightened the bow carefully before she left her Barracks for this little trip into town. She needed to pick up another book to read as she just finished the newest one she was reading. As much as she loved her books, reading the same ones over and over wasn't just as fun as reading a new one was. Luckily there was a book lender in town that she would be frequenting for the duration of her stay. She had found out about it when she had moved in, but had been too preoccupied unpacking her things to go and take a look. It was a nice bright day, rather on the warm side, but she wouldn't be out in the heat for long so it didn't quite bother her. Actually it was rather nice out, after she found suitable reading material she may get some training in before the good day is ruined.
Its almost noon when she actually reaches the store and is pleasantly surprised to see books lining the stall. She believed she would not be disappointed with this shop. Blake took her time skimming through the books picking up the ones whose titles she found interesting, but so far she found nothing. On the other side of the shelf she was skimming through a woman was holding a baby, a cute little thing that seemed very interested in the bow on Blake's head. While she wasn't paying the child any mind grubby little hands grabbed at her bow and yanked, the black strip of ribbon fluttered to the ground not far away.
Blake hadn't even noticed that it had happened until the small girl was reaching out to her screeching, "Kitty! Kitty!"
She brought a hand up to her head expecting to feel a bow, but when they touched fur instead Blake dropped straight down sinking between the shelves as to not be seen. She kept her hand over her ears, eyes darting around looking for that ribbon. She found it a bit away from herself and reached for it with one hand, but watched as a breeze swept in and drew it out of her reach and.... on to someone's shoe? She didn't dare look up, if they had seen anything then.... her life here was over before it had even begun.
"That would be mine, I'll just take that and get out of your way." And scurry to find somewhere, where she could tie it back without anyone seeing a thing.
