LOCS WASH DAY| *How I wash and re-tighten my daughter's hair*
Late night selfie. (Starting dreads <3 )
Feeling a bit “broken” but determined to end tonight/start this morning off better. Currently awake with my smiling son. :p
Hope you’re all doing well. x

Anniversary
It's been one month since my locks were all first put in place. I didn't take pictures before I got into bed, but I will tomorrow. I've been working on making extensions for the upcoming wedding season. I figure the road trip will be the perfect opportunity to install them since I'll have lots of free time and won't mind looking a little lopsided during the process. I test drove an installation this evening on my temple... Not really ideal real estate for my solo long-boy, but it'll do. I'm concerned they aren't mature enough for the extensions, but there's really only one way to find out. Also, I figure human hair extensions will mature alongside my current babies so, following that logic, it didn't make much sense to wait until the home team is had a huge head start. Right? I also did my most focused round of hook maintenance tonight. I probably tightened only 4 or 5, but at least 2 of them desperately needed it, and the difference really is astounding. I've also been a little more liberal with my backcombing. Initially I wanted to stick with rip-and-twist exclusively, but my laziness and growing tolerance have made me a little more open minded. Final note... In the last week 3 people noticed my locks for the first time. I dunt know why this is... I was tidier in the beginning, I'm more relaxed now, they had something going on in their life, they're realizing it isn't just a phase or bad hair day... whatever. I just thought it was interesting. Heavy eyelid time.
Moving Backwards
5 locks from the top of my head undone. The well intentioned friend who rushed through the final locks had a method that seemed iffy to me. Her final products looked like modified rope braids and the ends of a few of them started unraveling today. My number one lock-er, Miss E, is coming over tomorrow morning to help me get my babies back into shape. She's the slowest, but most methodical, and honestly just fantastic company. In other news, I have a few pimples on my scalp. Only 3, and they are near the locks which are pulled the tightest, so maybe that's a contributing factor. I finally got around to ordering my essential oils, so I'm going to wait until they get in to make my shampoo and wash them. I still have some itchies, but nothing too bad. I've been especially lazy this last week, and I washed my fringe this morning, so everything is still clean looking and smelling too. I'm thinking I'm going to have to undo a few more too, but I may just leave them to see how they fare through the first washing. Also, I can't quite figure out an effective crochet-hooking method. All part of the process, huh? I am genuinely already learning to let go, and it feels pretty fantastic. Finally, I've decided to count April 1st as my dreadlock birthday. It's the first day I had a full head of locks, and an easy day to remember. Still feeling good.
Grrrr
I cant wait to finish my dreads again!!!! xP
SOMEONE HELP ME
I want to dread my hair but I cant start it. I have thick, curly hair with big curls. I really need help getting them started, like some steps or something. Anyone know anything?
I've wanted dreads for the looooongest time! I'm gonna wait until I go off to college before I dread my hair, if I do it now I'm gonna have to get those tiny uniform dreads >.< I want dreads atleast the width of a thumb, tiny dreads are boring! Anyways, any tips for when I finally get to dread my Afro-American hair? ^.^
The easiest way to do this is to let your hair grow, and let the sections form on their own. If they seem too thick for your liking split them up before they get to knotted. If they are too thin then encourage them to congo, the best way to do this is with beads, but you could also try wrapping them with yarn for a few weeks too.
Have fun!
