OK, I'm pausing my Riot Women rewatches and essaying an attempt at watching something else. Let's see what this Pluribus thing is all about.
OK, opening scene is like that scene from Contact, y'know the one driving along the side of the telescope array, only there's no Jodie Foster yelling "Right ascension, eighteen hours, thirty-six minutes, fifty-six point two seconds! Declination, less thirty-six degrees, forty-six minutes, fifty-six point two seconds!" into a headset. And it's night time.
That is not Jodie Foster and that is not Jodie Foster but we do appear to have a signal from space.
Increasing numbers of astronomy nerds gathering around the computer (some of them are female and some of them are clutching laptops that they are also typing into, because it's no longer the 20th century)
The author reading scene is not convincing me. Both set pieces so far feel more like what the audience expect this scene to be than actual reality.
(also I need to know more about the setting of this female pirate captain fantasy she's reading from - there are two moons, and people who drop into French give me the in universe background of that)
On the upside whoever is creating these subtitles can spell taut.
And yeah, Craig with three things. God thing there wasn't a Q&A, because he'd have had more of an observation.
OK, yeah, I really dislike the supposition that only people writing drivel they don't like are making money writing fiction. Yes, hardly anyone is making a decent living selling fiction, but the cynical cashing in author myth is not doing it for me.
By hiding their sexuality no less.
And I was afraid that was going to happen (it was hard to avoid spoilers, even in my hyperfixated state)
That was good thinking. And yes, that's a problem. And yes, I'm a long time sucker for this kind of survival story. But kinda depressed now.
And I have no comment on the actual plot yet. We'll see where it goes.
