I’ve often wondered why silhouettes can look so magical. I think it’s because in many situations, our eyes can’t see silhouettes due to the very wide dynamic range of the human eye which allows us to see objects in strong shadow. This is one of those images where it just kind of sucks you in and leaves you speechless. I love how Pearl @pearlm24 made the creative choice to underexpose this image. It forces your eye to the reflection in the water. That reflection naturally leads you from the foreground, towards the sun and setting sky. This image is like a delicious 🎂 cake. Each layer is unique, yet blends perfectly with one another. Starting from the bottom, you get a soft, pastel like reflection, leading up to some beautiful textures in the waves. On top of that, you have this vibrant energy of sea gulls dancing in the sky and above that, moody clouds, full of dimension and drama. The early bird catches the worm. Mornings by far are my favorite time to shoot nature and landscapes. You get that golden light magic, mixed in with some moody atmosphere, which can take a plain scene and make it look dramatic. Look at this harvest moon rising above the tree tops over Manning Park in British Columbia. Paula @psimson captured this image using one of my favorite techniques. I don’t think it’s possible to take a bad picture at Lake Louise in Canada, but it is hard to take a unique one. There is something about this perspective, that makes it feel like you’re sitting in the back of the boat. You can almost feel the wind hitting your face. Looking at this image by Isabelle @escapesuburbia more intently there are a couple things that make it visually appealing. The outer edges of the boat act as leading lines, drawing your eye to the girl and the distant mountains. Additionally, the ridge of the right and left mountains, lead your eye down towards the girl. Scrolling through the #startingtoclick hashtag, I keep stopping at this image by Tiffiny @tiffduke. There’s a wonderful authenticity to it. A girl and her dog, in the dirt without a care in the world. This image by Kate @bellariana has so many stunning elements to it. Golden light from a setting sun, the river that snakes its way towards the beautiful mountains, the fence that brings your eye back towards the man on the cliff, the overall sense of size and scale by adding a person, the textures and colors, etc. If you’re into landscape photography, go check out her feed.
