It's a crazy jungle out there, folks. The sweetest pumpkin plants are rubbing leaves with the toxic castor oil plant, okra with datura. Beans are being grown for their colours and shapes, but I don't know how they taste. Sunflowers and amaranth are headed skyward. And the corn? Tri- coloured popcorn and rainbow coloured glass gem. Chinese cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, and Mexican tomatillos fight for light. No proper Italian vegetable gardener would ever allow this mess to happen, but it is somehow happening, physically challenging to create and maintain, botanically more interesting than it is useful in the kitchen, and always amusing.
