I have yet to introduce Starvex properly, so I'm actually gonna drop the synopsis of that here!
Basic plot is that Grian, at some point that would be prior to canon Evo, is kidnapped by Vex and basically forced to work for them. He's pretty much being used and tortured, until one day he's "bought" by another Vex and then promptly freed. This Vex turns out to be Scar. Grian quickly gets attached and Scar offers to help G learn magic to defend himself.
The two get pretty close and eventually end up finding and resucing Cub from a similar fate to what Grian would have suffered had Scar not saves him. Now, Scar had rescued ConVex in the past before, but he'd never actually kept them around as friends. Of course this changes because he can't bring himself to lose G or Cub, and the two willingly form a bond between themselves and him that technically makes them his own personal ConVex, but he doesn't see them as beneath him.
The three pretty much can share their thoughts with each other, as well as their magic.
As for why they end up referring to themselves as Starvex, it's because Grian is Starborn. They wanted to incorporate all three of themselves into their branding.
This does imply Grian never made Evo so he never got Watcher powers. He instead ends up with Vex magic, and pretty much just stays with Scar and Cub. This imploes Grian went to Kingdomcraft and met Ren, Iskall, and Wels too. This also means Grian joined Hermitcraft much earlier than in canon. I have yet to decide all the ramifications of this but there are definitely major changes because of it
