Ooo fantasy physics?
yes! I had to invent fantasy physics to make sense of the mechanics for my own plot. As it turns out, my idea of ‘combine X mechanic most authors avoid and Y mechanic that most authors complain incessantly about and Z mechanic that has no actual standing in canon’ is... hard
X mechanic, of course, being the Twilight Bell, Y mechanic being Time Rifts/Time Pieces, and Z mechanic being... uh. Hat Kid. The basics of those being
- There’s this thing called the Timestream and Time Pieces allow (most) people to interact with it (the exception being a fraction of the population of Hat Kid’s species that amounts to ~1-2%). When a Time Piece breaks it’s supposed to just create an intersection point between the Timestream and the physical world/”reality” but if you break it Wrong it creates at Time Rift which has other problems
- There’s this thing called the Twilight which is an in-between plane connecting the physical plane/”reality” and the horizon/”death” and the main access point on THIS planet is this place called the Twilight Bell (but there can be others). Having quick openings to the Twilight is normal for souls to leave the physical world when they die but sometimes an opening can stick. and grow. and that’s Bad
- Hat Kid being an Alien means that Hat Kid has different Rules regarding, specifically, the Timestream, considering this is what her society is chiefly concerned about. She has other stuff going on with her though.
I have a longer post on the Twilight and related things here if you’re interested!
