I’ve asked weeks ago for help with medical for this kids. It’s agreed upon in our parenting plan. Nothing. One specific Med for 15/16 is giving the insurance company a stroke every month. I pay the full $300+ price (after trying all discounts possible to see what sticks) and wait for a post authorization. I’ve asked for temporary help and told him that he’d get a full refund once it comes through. Nothing. That’s been 2 months of her meds.
My cards are all closed. I’ve consolidated through my bank. I don’t expect any help with those. He has our “family cards” still open, active, in use and in perfect standing of course. 1/2 of my 401k is going to be used to pay off cards I had no access to. He most certainly can help. He just isn’t.
Couples? Protect yourselves. Pre Nup or No Nup. Make sure your investments, which you began, paid attention to and nurtured remain your own. Make sure that you have a stipulation that if one cheats there is a consequence. Make a clause for marriage counseling. Above all? Ensure that your children are protected. If one of you leave? The standard of living for your children remain. Meaning, if there is a salary difference, the children are made whole.
You’ve entered marriage with love, hope and a belief in “forever”. My hope is that this never happens to you. Just know: Divorce and greed changes people. Protect yourself and your children. If it’s never used? Awesome!!! But, on the off chance it must happen? You will be protected.
