Tails tries to save Sonic, who is ugly, from Sonic Badnik, who is ugly and creepy!
You know, it’s kinda weird the way Sonic is drawn in spinning form here. It’s accurate to the game sprite, but (a) how are there spikes visually between his feet and face, he would need to have crazy-long quills for that, (b) that way he’s holding his legs in doesn’t look very secure or safe, and (c) why is he coming in from the right? He was on the left just a moment ago!
On the other hand, look at those floofy tails.
Unfortunately, Tails’ attempt to save Sonic backfires, and the Badnik’s chest opens and tentacles come out and pull Sonic in and yes it’s disturbing.
So! This is how badniks work in StC. I checked the wiki, but I couldn’t find anything about why they need the organic battery when they can function on their own.

Wha--what are you wearing, Robotnik? I’m so confused.
I’m not sure why all the shells look like the mobians inside (the dog and badger from earlier also got caught by similar-looking badniks), but then again this is a comic from the 90s, so I’m not going to question it too much.
Anyway, Robotnik proceeds to explain his plan to Tails. He's trying to collect a bunch of star posts so he can destroy them all, because his new HQ is in the Special Zone and he doesn’t want anybody getting in.
But, of course, Sonic overrides the Badnik mind-control and saves the day!

And so everyone is saved, the Star Post is repaired, and Robotnik flies off via jet boots, declaring that he has big plans.
