I don’t think Steam index is being actively updated anymore but ngl that’s fine because we get to see Railway Historians and the people they’re talking about at their cattiest
I feel Iike there’s been an effort in Wikipedia to clean up a lot of the vaguely unhinged claims made by railway historians. Like on one hand I’m grateful that Wikipedia is working to become an unbiased up to date source of accurate information. But like come on I do miss the brief amount of time where you could open Edward Thompsons Wiki page and find O.S Nock quotes that are borderline fighting words.
The crime Thompson committed? Rebuilding an LNER A1.
Reading through Steam index after reading a Wiki page is very much is like going from a BBC article to the bitchest tabloid ever, with the key difference being all the bitching is coming from 50+ year old men.
Examples include:
Like come on this is debatably gossip, debatably actual nonsense happening on the LNER. But ethier way it’s worth a read. 10/10
There’s absolutely more to be found both in the section about Thompson as well as the other CME’s but this post is long enough.
