One of the most renowned figures of the Dutch Golden Age of Science, for his invention of the mercury and glass thermometer and the temperature scale named after him. 17th September 1677, birth of English clergyman, botanist, chemist and inventor Stephen Hales, the first person to measure blood pressure, and inventor of forceps to remove bladder stones; which was guaranteed in the 17th and 18th centuries to increase blood pressure. Hales was also a friend of the English antiquarian and physician William Stukeley. Pioneer in the early field of what later would be called archaeology for the first scientific investigation of Stonehenge, and other prehistoric sites.
