(( AND FINALLY, MY FAVORITE LITTLE LAD.

There’s a lot of different little insecurities there that I could honestly talk for ages about between these two. 

The biggest one nagging at Stets right now is that he feels like he’s not being a very good brother, or at the very least not being able to uphold what he promised himself he’d do.

It’s not easy to give Steb a better shot at life than he got if Steb keeps feeling like he’s getting left behind, or that Stets won’t talk to him, or that Stets is hiding his own feelings... And he can’t exactly convince Steb that he’s fine. He doesn’t know what else to DO, though. If he unloads, he’s afraid he’ll be just as bad as the gems were. If he hides everything, Steb won’t trust him anymore, or - as he fears - will become fed up with him and want to leave.

Stets is terrified of all of this, has no idea how to proceed, or if there’s even a middle ground there. So he’s stuck feeling like someday, somewhere, somehow - He’s gonna fuck up, and he won’t be able to come back from it. ))
