Philly Comic Con 2017

Hello again!! Life might have gotten in the way of posting a lot, but we didn’t let it get in the way of cosplaying!  Or at least, finishing a cosplay that’s been in the works since last year (finally).

Philly comic con was an absolute blast once again, even in the panels were a bit lacking this year (which was for the best really, since I couldn’t sit without taking my costume off).  Olivia went as Yzma, a cosplay she’s never worn to Philly, and with her help I was able to finish Ashlotte from Soul Calibur IV.  It’s a cosplay I’ve been wanting to do since I started cosplaying, and having finally worn it felt pretty great.

Both Olivia and I participated in the costume contest, something she’s never done and I haven’t since the first time I went to Philly, way back in 2013.  The crowd absolutely loved her as Yzma, and I won honorable mention for Ashlotte!  We met some lovely cosplayers through the contest and throughout the weekend too, and we’ll be posting pictures of them as well as pictures we took of ourselves and any professional photos of us we find!

Con highlights definitely include the contest, people coming up to us the day after saying how much they loved us in said contest, and the general love and excitement for our cosplays.  There was also an impala with bitch and jerk signs we could take pictures with, and the sheer joy that gave us was totally worth the $15.

There’s also going to be a lot of tutorials rolling in for Ashlotte, since it was such an undertaking with many many parts and details.

NYCC 2016 and General Update

Hello again! We’re alive!  And NYCC 2016 was great!

This summer has been a whirlwind of real-life things (Graduation!! Wedding planning!! House building!!) so while we still found time to cosplay, we didn’t quite find the time to log our progress on this blog as much as we wanted to.  But worry not, there are a slew of tutorials in progress!  Keep checking back for those!

Before that, here’s a rundown of our NYCC experience this year.  Olivia was able to finish her Lady Sif cosplay more to her liking without a flu getting in the way, including covering her breastplate with a lot (a lot) of scroll patterns to match the armor in the movie.  She made her armbands and fixed her shoulder pieces as well.  My original plan was to cosplay Ashlotte from Soul Calibur IV this NYCC, an extremely complicated cosplay that I have been wanting to do for about 4 years now.  Unfortunately, due to all those life things mentioned above, I started too late to finish.  I made some great progress, and the cosplay is far along (a progress post will be coming soon!), but a week out Olivia and I decided that it would not be how I would like it to be if we rushed to finish it before the con (I wouldn’t have even had her weapon).  So, I took that opportunity to do a few more things to my Scarlet Witch cosplay that I didn’t have time to do before! This included adding the chord and eyelets across my vest, two more lower arm patches on my coat, and (my favorite addition) her magic!  Tutorials for both my and Olivia’s cosplays are in progress and will be posted soon!

NYCC itself was super fun, as always.  We only went one day this year (Saturday) since it’s so expensive to stay in the city overnight.  A bit of a bummer, since there were so many things happening on Sunday we would have like to see (like Bryan Fuller :( ).  But we still had a lot of fun! We went with a big group of friends this year that we would meet up with periodically throughout the day.  We didn’t sit in any panels, but this let us see the whole floor while giving us time to some breaks and sitting during the day.  Artist Alley was our favorite, as always, and so were the cosplayers!  I’m pretty sure everyone has seen him before, but the Hodor holding the door was one of our favorites.

Philly Comic Con 2016 and General Update

In the midst of all our queued con pics, here’s a post about our weekend at Philly this year, as well as a general update!

Let me start by saying that, as evidenced, we are alive and still cosplaying! This blog fell a bit by the wayside due to life happenings, and me (Julia) finishing up my senior year at college (Chemical engineering truly sucked out my soul in the final stretch).  Now that all parties are officially adults with no studying to do, we’re going to work to keep this blog pretty active with progress posts and tutorials (we’re a bit behind on those), shoots and pictures. So keep checking back! 

As far as Philly, it was, as usual, wonderful.  We went both on Saturday and Sunday, but had to skip Friday due to Olivia getting the flu and pushing her cosplay progress back about a week. Saturday was fantastic, and even though we did not get into the Chris Evans panel (no surprises there), we did see Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth, which made our day.  We met some amazing cosplayers on the floor, including an extremely uncanny Carl Grimes lookalike.  Sunday was just as awesome with a Billy Boyd panel, and we sweated our asses off (vinyl and leather are not fun in the summer) marginally less since the crowds were a bit thinner.   We even ran into a cousin of ours!

Con highlights included people asking me where I bought my coat, telling me I looked just like Scarlet Witch/Emily Olson, and people getting very excited about Olivia’s armor and telling her they “saw her earlier and were trying to find her again because oh my God a Lady Sif.”
