Luffy crouched on the ground, cuts weeping from his cheeks and arms, though he did not notice.  All he cared about was the dog that was curled pitifully in his arms, it’s beautiful white coat stained crimson - whether it was his blood or Luffy’s, no-one could know.

Placing the crumpled form gently on the ground, Luffy placed his Strawhat over the dog’s head before staring at the battlefield ahead with a stony demeanor.

“Thank you, Stephanie,” he murmured, looking back at his friend one last time.  “I shall take it from here.”

You know that friend that has a super cute animal? You go over to their house for the first time and instead of paying much attention to the friend, you pay more attention to their pet. You force the poor thing to spend time with you, you carry it about like it's your own pet instead of your friends, you give it kisses and flop it's ears to the sound of music? You blow on it's fur just to see the reaction? The friend ends up envious of it because you're just loving it so much and not them? Sometimes you even make jokes that aren't actually jokes about taking said pet home with you?

Yeah. Luffy and Stefan and the Whitebeard pirates.

Stefan, to Luffy, use to  be a name fit for a old and wise wizard.

He's a dog, I mean how can you not love a dog? Whitebeard's crew is literally like a family and they even have a pet! I can totally see Stefan being spoiled by some of them like they would sneak him food under the table or in Ace's case, use the pup as a way to trash the veggies. But gotta say, what really brought him to life was you! You gave me a completely new outlook on this character that's not even in the anime!

Stefan snorted over her feet, then situated himself right in between her legs, peering up at her and expecting her to start going again. His wagging tail hit each of her calves with each swish, and he barked as if to say, “Where are we going now?”

Lucille nudged him slightly in the side, trying to convince him to leave.

"I 'aven't got food for yer, so stop barking and skedaddle."
