So my girl child was invited to NYLF: Explore STEM camp this summer! As you can imagine, this is not a cheap camp lol. I am trying to raise a bit for her to lighten the load. She is extremely excited to go and we want her to have the best time. If you guys can, please consider donating. Final STEM Camp update

So, I know you’ve all been waiting to hear an update, but STEM camp has officially been cancelled. In the end I only had 5 girls sign up and that’s just not enough to justify all the work. I have put in some time, and am now realizing that I need to notify my guest speaker/group, but I didn’t have anything planned in detail.

I’m sad, but ultimately it would have been incredibly stressful to put together with the way everything worked out. So this is the end of STEM camp.

The STEM camp is taking shape. We are moving forward, and I’ve chosen some of the details, like the ages, the cost, and I wrote a brief description. My next steps are to choose dates (it’s 3 days), set up registration, and then to submit it to the national virtual camp marketplace.

One issue I’m running into is that my boss has no expectations of this, so I’m making it all up. While I appreciate the freedom to be creative, I also find it anxiety-inducing and find myself asking for approval for different things rather than just submitting a proposal.

STEM Camp update 8

I went back and counted and this is update 8 (not counting a couple of reblogs of commentary).

Unfortunately, I still have no registrations for STEM camp. To be fair, the only advertising I’ve done is to stick it on GSUSA’s marketplace. It’s on our calendar as well, but I haven’t put it in the newsletter or advertised on Social Media. My boss thinks that we may get some registrations as councils decide to cancel camp due to COVID, although I think that a lot are stubborn like our camp directors and really, really don’t want to cancel again.

In other news, I’ve secured a group of female graduate students in biomedical engineering from my university to present a bioscience lab. Not technically badge related, but who doesn’t want to learn about the biomechanics of snot? This also means that I have 5 of 9 sessions accounted for, with tentative themes for a couple of others.

Fingers crossed for some registrations though.

So I might be leading a STEM camp for the national GS audience this summer?

I brought up an idea my coworker had gotten from another council that I liked, of a one afternoon “camp in” for STEM. So I told my boss because I am *deeply* in need of more STEM participants. And she took it as, maybe we should make it an actual virtual summer camp session and put it on the national marketplace. She also said that our CEO would really like that.

Being autistic, I don’t always read between the lines. My coworkers, the camp directors, on the other hand, helped me interpret the subtext. While I thought this was more of a “do you want to do this?” it seems it is actually more of a “how do we do this?”

So I guess I’m going to be running a virtual STEM camp.

So I think I have a date for STEM camp. I have to rearrange all of August but it works best. I now have everything I need to create the registration, which is the next step. The hang-up, which became a hang-up at 7 pm on Friday, with this is that we aren’t sure which system to use: the events system that my events use OR the camp system that all the other camps are using. I personally would rather use the camp system because the events system has some serious, time-consuming issues, but I don’t think it’s really my call. But STEM camp continues to take shape.
