WHAT IS OUTING?

It is the act of revealing a person's sexual orientation or gender identity without their consent. (Consent is important!)

WHY IS IT DETRIMENTAL?

Outing causes harm to the victim. It invades their privacy and their safety. It can even cost them their life. If you didn't know, there are countries where being part of the LGBTQ community can sentence you to death. It's cruel but we can't just change a country's laws, instead we should find ways and try our best to keep our people safe.

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

CONSENT! Ask if it's okay to disclose information about it. If you're not close with each other, it's better to have a tight lip and mind your own business.

RESPECT! If they say they don't want to tell you or they don't want you to tell others, then you respect that and move on with your life. NEVER FORCE SOMEONE OUT! (You'll catch these hands.)

PROTECT! Don't let others trample yours or anyone's privacy. Let's stand up for each other to prevent others from harming our friends from the LGBTQ community.

EDUCATE! Educate, not only others, but also yourself. Research and spread awareness with the knowledge you gain, educate people to help create a better and safer space for the LGBTQ community.

WE WON'T LET OTHERS VIOLATE OUR PRIVACY!

Our privacy is our own. It's our right to be the one to disclose our personal information to others. IT'S OUR OWN DECISION TO MAKE, NOT OTHERS.

NEVER LET THE SOCIAL MEDIA MANIPULATE YOU!

             In today's generation, people are really in to social media wherein they tend to abuse its capability. If it is not for sharing the positivity and informing others, it can be used for judging, manipulating and destroying someone's life. This drawing shows the effect of being controlled by the social media. You are letting people to define who you are, you cannot do the things that you want to do and your actions are limited since you are confined with the mean and harmful words of others. This may cause due to cyberbullying, cyber-mobbing, shaming, fake news and other media issues.

             These issues need to stop because you’ll never know that someone might be depressed or it may lead to death. As a social media user, we should use this wisely and think about something that can benefit you and other people. This was made in order to inform and share knowledge and not to harm other people. We should never play the role of being a puppet, but rather we must be the one who control our life and be the voice for others who cannot fight for their own. We should get out in our comfort zone and continue to live our life to the fullest.

Cancel culture

In our society that we are facing right now, we expose every single thing that we do in social media. Wrong actions of public figures after doing or posting something offensive on social media, people are being voided because of calling out and get humiliated. The idea of cancelling someone and not their actions affects their humanity yet it is wrong and this stigma is grown in all forms. This situation leads to cyberbullying/online shaming, instead cancelling people, we need to eduacate their minds that their actions is wrong not jumping to a conclusion that the person is being voided.

Thirst to the Growing Flower is a poetry I passionately created to inform, share and give awareness to all people especially women about the sexual harassment that they are experiencing in social media. I was one of the women who experienced this kind of thing which inspired me to create this piece.

Ignoring them won’t help but educating them is a better way to STOP. >𝕐𝕆𝕌 𝔸ℝ𝔼 𝔽ℝ𝔼𝔼 𝕋𝕆 𝔻𝕆 𝕎ℍ𝔸𝕋 𝕐𝕆𝕌 𝕎𝔸ℕ𝕋 - You have the right to speak and refuse when things go wrong, you are always free, do not forget that women have rights!

Fake News

Defined as untrue information presented as news. It often has the aim of damaging the reputation of a person or entity, or making money through advertising revenue.

Today, the prevalence of fake news has increased with the rise of social media, especially the Facebook News Feed. Political polarization, post-truth politics, confirmation bias, and social media algorithms have been implicated in the spread of fake news.

To prevent the spread of fake news, here are some tips on how to spot them:

CHECK THE DATE - Reposting old news stories doesn’t mean they’re relevant to current events.

CONSIDER THE AUTHOR - Click away from the story to investigate the site, its mission and its contact info.

READ BEYOND - Headlines can be outrageous in an effort to get clicks. Know the whole story.

SUPPORTING SOURCES? - Click on those links. Determine if the info given actually supports the story.

CHECK THE AUTHOR - Do a quick search on the author. Are they credible? Are they real?

Hello! It’s me :)

 I’m Patricia Joy T. Abundo. However, I prefer people calling me PJ instead. I am a student of University of Perpetual Help-Molino Campus. I’m currently in grade 12 and also a STEM student. The reason why I took up STEM because I want to pursue in BS Architecture in college. The things that I like to do are listening to music(especially to Day6, Keshi, RINI, Seventeen, Beabadoobee and Niki) while doing some art. I am also very fond of doing my makeup simply because it serves as my stress reliver. Usually I would get the impression that I’m quiet and shy but when you get along with me well, I’m the type that can be very jolly and be as talkative as I can.

CULTURAL APPROPRIATION

What is Cultural Appropriation?

It is the adoption of an element or elements of one culture or identity by members of another culture or identity.

Why does it matter?

Appropriating one’s culture, especially historically oppressed groups, for aesthetic purposes is disrespectful and controversial. Not only are you reducing a culture to aesthetics, harmful stereotypes are also spread. Additionally, there are certain cultural symbols considered to be sacred and holy, like the bindi and mudra of Hinduism.

How do I avoid appropriation?

Sensitivity to one’s culture could be attained through awareness. Educate yourself and learn that certain minorities don’t like their culture and traditions to be disrespected and reduced to just aesthetics. Also, never invalidate one’s sentiments on having their culture “borrowed” or “misrepresented”, especially if they come from a oppressed minority. 

Can I use a culture for inspiration on something?

It depends on your intentions. Are you using it without proper consent from those who have adopted the culture? Then don’t do it. Do you want other people to recognize the hardships and difficulties of those under a specific culture? Sure, but remember to do extensive research and give credit to the people under that culture.
