so my first year (/10 months) on Tumblr has been really great!! When I joined I honestly wasn’t expecting to make friends - I was here for the art - but I’ve been absolutely delighted to find a bunch of super lovely people here!!! @anyeka you are SUCH an inspiration and I love how you always always have kind and encouraging words for anyone who sends you asks about art or anything ;3; seeing your amazing progress over the course of less than a year has given me a lot of hope for my own progress! Also you find the neatest sky photos to reblog...I love the pastel prettiness!! @captbuccaneer ASHLEY my Star Wars/FMA screaming buddy...you and your blog helped me survive the semester :,)) I love your gifsets (angsty or not) and you’ve inspired me to try making my own so maybe you’ll get to see some of those in future!! I know we all want replies back but messaging really was a fantastic move on Tumblr’s part ;3; I hope you all have the most wonderful holidays and (at least semi-)peaceful breaks!!

Its so frustrating that people don’t fucking get that what they are doing is so disgustingly racist not to mention embarrassing! to even suggest! that they should drag Nakamura into this (I seriously hope she hasn’t already seen this shit)

I almost wanna play fair with some of these people, but then you have to consider how they respond to being told, “this is actually an issue, and here’s why”. If it’s to block people and accuse them of stirring up drama and being pointlessly mean, my guess is they lack the maturity needed to take personal responsibility on this level. And that’s a fucking shame, because this is once again taking away from the main point.

And what’s interesting is some of the people who are, of course, guilty of these behaviors, who project forth this image of Joseph, and treat him like that aren’t chiming in at all to even attempt to justify their bullshit. They’re just keeping quiet because, again, they lack the maturity needed to look at themselves with a critical eye, and can hide behind lowkey ‘I wanna avoid drama’ posts, because simply labeling an angry critique as “drama” gets them out of any attempt to challenge the fake little worlds they’ve created for themselves as fandom heads.

People need to go outside more and get some fucking hobbies, man.

Its so so so great to see people like you are talking about this whole Joseph racism issue. I've been noticing it since the tew fan base started getting bigger and it was really alarming to see so many people have the same gross interpretation of him. Thank you so much for talking about this

♥ You’re very welcome. I’m sorry it even has to be a discussion, and I’m far from the most eloquent (or important) person talking about the topic, tbh. ingu and jouact have had some really brilliant commentary on the subject as well. ETA: as have agonybolt, breakfalcons, and nimsies.

It’s frustrating to see all this, since there’s really no justification for this interpretation of him at all. We’ve got canon completely dismissing it, yet people don’t want to work with that – which begs the question why they’re even bothering with the game and its characters at that point.

The fact that the topic is being derailed and warped – with someone anonymously trolling fanartists and cosplayers, and another person suggesting that Nakamura needs to be involved to be the deciding factor on “supposedly” racist art – is just even more frustrating, because it’s detracting from the point. The point was only ever about people projecting really disgusting stereotypical and racist (and sexist!) behaviors onto Joseph and how people need to examine their behaviors. That’s it. (Plus I take issue with the idea that a canon authority needs to weigh in on the topic to give their pov, because that almost implies theirs is the only comment that matters? Meanwhile there’s post after post of people explaining, in detail!, why this is so offensive and needs to stop.)

But apparently asking for people to take responsibility for their bullshit is an alien goddamn concept.
