CONFESSION:

I totally get why people hate Blackwall and have trouble looking past his crimes, but for me there’s a real disconnect. I think it’s partly because we’ve had companions like Sten and Zevran who have also killed innocent people and…I guess it’s because the game made less of a thing about it when it was them? Sten murdered an entire family over a sword and it doesn’t take much to convince him to give up his imprisonment and his crime is never really brought up again. Making Blackwall’s criminal past a big moral quandary doesn’t really jive for me when I’ve overlooked so much for other companions bc the games never made it as big a deal for those characters. Blackwall’s story having more moral stakes doesn’t feel earned in the scope of the series and it makes it harder for me to actually feel properly conflicted when faced with the choice to free him or kill him.

I hate Sten. I hate him so much, and it’s all because of his weird, creepy, monotone voice(and also his remarks towards female wardens, Leliana, Wynne, and Morrigan are so terribly awful)

I don’t like Sten, his monotone voice freaks me out.

I can't bring myself to remotely like Sten. I'm not sure what it is, but I feel him to be cold and rude, like he doesn't even want to be there. I have zero connection with him.

I just. Don’t really like Sten. At all. I’m playing through origins and I find him to be boring, he also probably won’t like my warden as much as I continue to play her. I know he’s a character where you like or don’t like him, but I find him and the qun to be boring. :/

i have only ever recruited sten for the xp i try to pretend he doesn’t exist and on my canon PT i left him in his cell. fuck sten & fuck the qun. he literally tells u that he’s gathering military intelligence on ferelden for his arishok and you’re just supposed to...help him do that? so if the qunari decide to invade the south again, they’ll be prepared? i literally don’t understand the point of his character.

Not judging here, but why Sten? I thought he was pretty cool.

Wynne: I beg your pardon?

Sten: Women are artisans, or merchants. Or farmers, though you don't seem particularly... earthy. They have no place in war.

Wynne: I can't even begin to tell you what's wrong with that idea.

Sten: It is not done. There is no more to it.

Wynne: I do not understand. Do the Qunari have no female mages? No female warriors?

Sten: Of course not. Why would our women wish to be men?

Wynne: Do you believe I wish to be a man?

Sten: You cannot wish to be a man. It will lead you only to frustration.

Wynne: Hmm. I believe this discussion does the same. Let us speak no more of it, Sten.

Sten: As you wish.

Wynne: You can stop flinching, Sten. I'm not going to harm you.

Sten: I do not fear harm to myself.

Wynne: What is that supposed to mean?

Sten: An unbound mage is like a wildfire. As prone to consume itself as it is to devour all that surrounds it.

Wynne: I do wish you wouldn't refer to mages as "it".

Sten: Why are you here?

Leliana: What do you mean?

Sten: Women are priests, artisans, farmers or shopkeepers. None of them have any place in fighting.

Leliana: I have no idea how to answer this...

Sten: It is not done. There is no more to it.

Leliana: Do you mean your people have no female mages or warriors?

Sten: Of course not. Why would our women wish to be men?

Leliana: What are you talking about? They don't wish to be men.

Sten: They shouldn't. That can only lead to frustration.

Leliana: Sten...no, never mind. Let's drop this.

Sten: Why are you here?

Morrigan: Excuse me?

Sten: Obviously you are no priestess. But shouldn't you be... running a shop, or a farm somewhere, rather than fighting?

Morrigan: You think to tell me my place, Qunari? You are very brave.

Sten: It is not done.

Morrigan: But it is done. Do not be such a blind fool.

Sten: I speak the truth. It is not I who am blind.

Morrigan: Look around you, then. you see women throughout this land, fighters and mages both.

Sten: That has yet to be proven.

Morrigan: Which? That they fight? Or that they are female?

Sten: Either.

Morrigan: So I am not truly a woman to you? Hmm. 'Tis good to know.
