In a couple of weeks I’ll be interviewing someone about their cultural background and their involvement with the local Arabic-speaking community for my intercultural communications class. My first instinct would be to conduct the interview in English because I’m still a beginner in Arabic, but I know that people are usually more comfortable talking about personal details in their native language. I might bring a friend from my class who speaks Arabic so they can help me, but I don’t want the interview to be too crowded.
I think I’ll try my best to interview in Arabic, and we’ll switch to English if I really have no idea what’s going on. I’ll keep you updated.
