Dream Shake - Dream Shake
It'd be easy to assume that Dream Shake's self-titled album is a collection of songs about girls who broke lead singer James Nee's heart, considering each song is named after a girl. Instead, he says it's a "concept record, but no one will get my references." After listening to the album, I can attest that he's right. The album isn't anything that's in-your-face exciting, and there isn't one song on the album that will get stuck in a listener's head. That's not to downplay Nee's ability to make music that is good in its own way; in fact, the album seems to find its footing as it progresses, offering the later songs that have solid content and guitar notes that compliment perfectly. Track 7, Rachel, is really where the album starts to pick up and prove that Nee is more than background music. In fact, the last three tracks on the album (7-9) are where the money is going to come from for Dream Shake. As a new artist, he has plenty of time to grow, and one can only hope he takes the inspiration from the end of his first album and runs with it.
