"Just as the sun was setting, about 40 protesters arrived. The snow started falling with big heavy flakes. Almost immediately I saw this woman. I thought she was so beautiful.

I noticed that there were snowflakes in her hair and they were not melting. I thought, what a perfect metaphor since the right wing has named liberals 'snowflakes,' saying they are weak and easily take offense.

I loved the contrast of the black and white colors and the contrast of her strength and the fragility of the snowflakes. I asked if we could make a portrait."
