Karam helms the screen version of his Tony Award-winning, post-9/11 one-act Broadway stage play but wisely avoids trying to make the film adaptation feel artificially more cinematic while still adding camera movements and flourishes to enhance the drama of his characters. Set entirely in a rundown Lower Manhattan duplex over the course of a Pennsylvania family’s Thanksgiving dinner, we witness a plethora of familial baggage being laid bare during a particularly tense holiday gathering.
Led by actors like Richard Jenkins, Steven Yeun, and Beanie Feldstein, we witness how certain generational relationships unfold into conflict with the fine cast giving dynamic performances across the board.
