So I want to introduce you guys to this cool dude, Stephen Knapp.

He does these sculptures that almost resemble crystals formed by light. The way the light bounces and reflects off of the coloured glass is beautiful and is something I really want to play around with.

I’ve been hunting around for art that instills this kind of childlike wonder in people, and this seriously resonates with that feeling for me. Something about how all these brilliant colours are on display, and in an instant, will disappear if the lights are turned off, gives an almost fleeting feeling.

His work is composed of pigmented glass squares, that are lit by a singular light source, which results in these beautiful pieces that are called ‘lightpaintings’. Knapps was also commissioned by the Flint Institute of Arts, and is the first to have a lightpainting in a museums’ collection.
