I love that the San Francisco sound has taken off. Between Glenn Donaldson (The Reds, Pinks and Purples), Tony Jay (Flowertown) and Cindy, there is a definite vibe to the City sound.
Gold Dust have been mining (forgive the too-obvious pun) in a similar time frame. I've got to imagine that Stephen Pierce (the person behind the band) were probably immersed in bands like The Clientele and Galaxie 500.
I don't really care who owned the sound first. It's great, and some of the geographical differences do help create a wider spread of the reverb soaked/slow-jangle approach of the sound.
Gold Dust (Easthampton, Massachusetts) releases appear to be self-released.
