❛ ゚» Simay Barlas , cis female , twenty-two years old , she/her , the rose-tinted « if we were in a movie , whenever Pippa Rose Sadik walks into the room you’d hear “Free and Wild” - Kate Voegele playing over the scene . one of lockbourne’s finest , they’re always hanging around Lock Gardens . right now they’re working at Lock Gardens , and if you asked the rest of the group what they reminded ‘em of , they’d have to say warm hugs in oversized sweaters, baking cookies in the middle of the night, running barefoot through an open field, flowers in your hair, dancing and singing off-key to your favorite song, early mornings when the air is still and all the world is still asleep, cats curled up in sunny windows, hand-made friendship bracelets, renaming constellations, floral sundresses, cute stationary and dotting the i’s with hearts . they’d describe themselves as + compassionate and + sweet , but fail to mention they’re also - fanciful and - naive . but regardless , the group still love them to the moon and back .
People often assume one of two things when they meet Pippa. Number one: she has never suffered a day in her life. Number two: she has lived a life of horrible, relentless tragedy, and her seemingly boundless optimism is simply her coping mechanism. The truth, though, is somewhere in the middle, just as it is for most people. Raised by a single mother, she never knew her father. Perhaps he was a good man, or perhaps he was not, but he did not care enough about either of them to stay, and so he was not her concern.
Though a small part of her wonders about her father, she does not see any point in dwelling on things that hurt her. And anyway, her mother, Flora, has never once been anything less than what she needed. The two of them did not make the largest family, or the richest, but they were happy. Pippa never felt any absence in her life, not really.
Outside of her home, of course, Pippa did not always find the same understanding as she shared with her mother. She knew that people thought she was strange, and children can be very bold, especially when they decide you are not one of them. Before Lockbourne, the Sadiks lived in London, and while on the one hand, cities are always great places for misfits, they are not the place to connect, to be known. Busy, overwhelming, lonely -- it did not feel like the place to raise a child like Pippa, and so, when she was nine, Flora moved them back to Lockbourne, the place where she was born.
Like her mother before her, Pippa instantly fell in love with the sleepy little town. The coves, the gardens, the people -- it was everything her romantic heart could ever want. Here, too, there were some who raised their eyebrows or giggled behind their hands at her quirks, her unendingly sunny disposition, but she remained unruffled. She was doing what made her happy. If they could not understand that, it was not her concern.
In Lockbourne, Pippa spent her youth in the gardens, in fields, in the coves. Small towns may have a reputation for being boring, but she could never understand that. There is so much history, so much beauty, and so much to explore. She drank in every beautiful sight this wonderful little town had to offer those who bothered to look. There was perhaps not anything more beautiful to her than the way the light hit the wisteria in the Lock Gardens first thing in the morning.
Whether all of Lockbourne understood her or not, Pippa gradually found her people. True bliss lives in doing the things that make you happy, Pippa believes that firmly -- but she also believes in sharing that bliss with the ones you love, and though they do not always see eye to eye, she adores her friends with all of the love in her open heart.
Unlike many, Pippa never felt the strong desire to leave this town. Oh, she understood wanting to see the world, gain new experiences -- she felt those impulses too. But leave entirely? She could never. All of her loveliest memories are here, and her heartbreaks. Lockbourne held a special place in her heart, having welcomed her as a child and never once turning its back on her. She has been working at the Gardens since high school, and that is where she intends to stay for now. Some may accuse her of having small dreams because of this, but it is in fact the exact opposite. Pippa wants only to be happy, and to share that happiness with as many people as she can. Is there any dream more grand than that? But she will achieve her dream, and she does not need to leave behind what she loves so much to do it.
Headcanons
She and her mother live in exactly the sort of home one might expect -- a small cottage-style house with a lovely garden and flowers growing down the side of the house. There are three bird feeders around the house, and a bowl of water near the front for any animals who happen to wander by.
She has a habit of picking up stray cats, and she names them after characters they remind her of from her favorite books.
Her favorite flower is the daffodil, both for how it looks and for what it symbolizes, as the first flower to bloom after the winter.
She did not attend college. She likes to learn, but the classroom always felt too rigid to her. She prefers to study what interests her on her own, while pursuing the life that makes her happy.
She does not get upset very often, but when she does, she can be found at her favorite little cove by the beach. She does not like people to see her when she is upset, because she wants to only spread light and positivity.
She often doodles absentmindedly in the margins of her papers, or in a notebook when the Gardens are quiet.
