Beautiful additions to my cards collection: - Thorns & Roses deck by Steve Minty, inspired by Shakespeare. My 3rd deck by Steve Minty. I’m not addicted at all. >_> This is the “Roses” variant, there is a green “Thorns” variant with all the characters dead. ^^ - Ephemerid by MrCup. MrCup is a french typographic designer with a very elegant style. The cards are glorious. There is a deluxe variant of this deck with black & gold box. Previous posts: 1 - 2 - 3
Update on my playing cards collection, the first part is here.
1 - Makers by Dan & Dave. Dan & Dave are famous card designers who put a lot of care in each one of their creations. The details are so intricate and carefully made, it’s simply a feast for the eyes. Each face card has a profession (hence the name, Makers). No wonder it became a classic. It also exists in 2 other variations, a black one and a white one. 2 - Bronze Age by Bicycle. I’m fond of heraldry so I searched for a beautiful deck about this theme. Bronze Age is the remake of the Coat of Arms deck by Justin Froyd, with different colors and tinted cards instead of white. Each face card shows an imaginary coat of arms. This deck also exists in a third version, “Dark Ages”. 3 - Gemini by Stockholm 17 is a fantastic deck with stylish medieval/fantasy face cards. Gemini exists in several color variations (box and back of the cards), mine is the “terra” variation. 4 - Hannibal by IDFYI. I know. I already have one. But Laura @idontfindyouthatinteresting made a new deck and it was too pretty to let go. I had to have it. It’s Hannibal. I don’t make the rules. 5 - Killer Bees by Ellusionist. This one is not mine but belongs to my son. I may have transmitted the card collecting virus to the poor kid. >_> However I wanted to show it here because it’s a remarkable deck, very popular and fabulously designed.
At RDC4 I was able to have my autograph by Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon in American Gods) on this card from the famous Anubis deck. Ricky was so kind, and the card became instantly my favorite ^^. As I tagged Steve Minty, the creator of the deck, when I posted the image online, he said that was super cool and RT my tweet and asked to repost my image on his Instagram. That allowed me to thank him for his work, express my admiration and be the usual fangirl. ^o^/
I realize I have started a modest collection of playing cards decks. I don't even play cards games, to be honest. I like them as collectable, beautifully designed objects. I wish to make my own one day. 1 - Muertos by Steve Minty. This is hands down one of the most exquisite cards decks in the world, certainly one of my favorites. I love everything, the theme, the classy, crisp design, the care for the details. 2 - Anubis by Steve Minty. Another beautiful Steve Minty creation, the Anubis deck is popular right now because it was the one used in the recent TV show "American Gods". It's sold out on the official site, I got mine from an european retailer. 3 - Madison Turquoise, I like the abstract, elegant design of this classic Bicycle deck. 4 - Aves by Lux. Of course, I have a bird-inspired deck. Aves is a famous one, with beautiful illustrations by Karina Eibatova. 5 - Hannibal by IDFYI. Of course, I have an Hannibal-inspired deck where the hearts are anatomical hearts, spades are hooks, clubs are antlers and diamonds are boars. Thank you Laura @idontfindyouthatinteresting ! ^^ 6 - Mini Phoenix. Phoenix is a classical series intended for magicians. I bought these because I like miniatures. I have several small-sized cards to go with my dolls but not many complete decks.
I also have a few illustrated tarots and 7 families decks but not enough to call it a collection.
@jack-of-all-cards feeling the black card face?

Do you remember Disney / Pixar’s movie “UP”? So meet Steve Minty, he’s a big fan of “UP”.

Then his best friend nominated him to have a special gift built by Tim Baker and his team. And they decided to build a house for Steve’s dog Dug based on the one from the movie….
