Here is Steve Simpson partnering with Kevin von Erich and playing the Longhair-in-Peril in this Tag Team match against legendary Heel Daddies, Matt Borne and Buzz Sawyer. I always loved it when Borne and Sawyer beat the fuck out of the von Erichs and all their cute young friends!
Kevin observes his partner's pathetic helplessness angrily from the far corner as Simpson bumps around like a jobber. The full video was recently posted to YouTube.
I believe this match took place in July 1986, a month after Kevin's brother (and frequent partner) Kerry von Erich was injured in a near-fatal motorcycle crash. So the backstory here is that Kevin is clearly missing his absent brother(s) and must now partner up with this inferior version of Kerry: jobber Steve Simpson.
To emphasize Steve Simpson's inferiority relative to Kerry (to get us all fired up for Kerry's eventual return), the sadistic Heels get to really tee off on this wimpy Kerry Wanna-Be. We get some delicious punishment as Borne & Sawyer go to work on Simpson's back. Their stiff Over-the-Knee Backbreakers are just awesome!
Meanwhile Kevin is pacing around, all angry and frustrated and wishing he still had a fellow von Erich superhero to partner with.
In the end, Kevin is humiliated, his bare ass put on display as he suffers the Three Count. This sort of degradation never happened when Kerry and David were around! This is a rare defeat for the promoter's son, but they wanted to hammer home the point that Kerry is greatly missed and Kevin is lost without him.
