starter for @nysusmuses | Steve & Tommy
Steve was standing with his back to the room, sorting through canned goods that had been donated. Lots of people were still struggling since the "earthquake" and Steve was doing everything that he could to stay busy. Keep his mind off of the impending doom.
He turned around to grab the next box, but it was being delivered to the table by none other than Tommy Hagan.
❝Tommy?❞ Steve was surprised, to say the least.
Jesus, he used to feel like home base. Safe and familiar and someone to stand next to in the hallway so he didn’t feel like he was standing alone.
Then things changed. Nancy happened. The world flipped inside-out. Monsters became real, and suddenly so did feelings, and mistakes, and things like guilt. And Tommy … Tommy stayed exactly the same. Same jokes. Same bitterness. Maybe Steve should’ve seen it coming, that Tommy wasn’t going to clap for him getting his act together. But it still stung. Like the second Steve stopped being “King Steve,” Tommy didn’t see much point in sticking around.
At least the last time that Steve had seen him, that was the case. They didn't talk it out or try to resolve anything. Maybe that had been on Steve too.
But man, it was nice seeing him doing something decent.
