I think this is a symbolic rendering of one of the Fates - it is the ball of twine before it is measured and cut. But it may be Abraxas and the World Egg that lies behind it.

Snow White, Steve Ferris

This is in fact the moment of conception. Her mother pricks her finger and a drop of blood falls onto the white snow. There is a Freudian substructure to so many tales and in this case there is a notion of sacrifice and here the myth is quietly transgendered.

I wanted to use a fundamental shape to carry great symbolic meaning: here is Joshua's trumpet. The very sound itself is encapsulated in the enamels dots. It looks like a tongue at the same time.
