Izzy himself said that he’s with a girl 28 out of 30 days, and considering that he’s the most reserved of the bunch (aside from maybe Duff, during some times), I think it’s safe to assume that the others were with a girl at least 29 out of 30 days lmao

Groupie culture was so natural back then and from my perspective absolutely peaked in the mid 80s. When you’ve got an ocean of willing women to choose from you’re guaranteed to never feel bored in your sexual life again. Both the rockstars and the groupies were drugged out of their minds more than half the time, and especially on cocaine, exhaustion is not really something you concern yourself with.

I do think there’s an extreme correlation between hard drug addictions and an increased libido as you can literally tell how those rockstars stop being with so many women when they start getting sober.

There’s rockstars out there like Charlie Watts (Rolling Stones), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) or Angus Young (ACDC) who either never did drugs at all (Snider), never did hard drugs (Young), stopped immediately after slipping up (Watts) or at least kept their drug use to a BARE minimum (Jones) and there’s a pattern with those rockstars that they turned down groupies, kept a stable marriage through their prime rockstar years and stayed faithful throughout.

I think it’s so interesting because it proves to show how much drugs fuck with your brain. They revert you back to your primal instincts and either make you something less than human or something that entirely transcends humanity. Sometimes it does both of these things within the span of a few hours. Addictions make you an absolutely horrible person, a brute, and a cheater in the great MAJORITY of cases.

When you try to kick an addiction, you’ll want to fill that space with another addiction to soothe the pain and stimulate your mind. In most cases, that’s sex.

Both sex and drugs release hormones like dopamine, endorphins and oxytocin. Those hormones are linked to pleasure, desire, attachment and pain-relief. Those are the main things people who do drugs search for. While the hormones released from an orgasm are much weaker than from a high, it’s still a trusty way to soften the blow of withdrawal. And also a very addictive feeling, if you’ve ever had a real good orgasm, you’ll know.

When you’re addicted to the same degree that rockstars like Slash or Nikki were, every hour of you not doing drugs is gonna feel like a violent withdrawal. That’s the main thing with drugs once you’re deep in it. There just can’t be enough of it to ever keep you pleased. You start on a little of the drug and as time passes your brain builds a resistance against the drugs and it’ll take more and more and more and more to experience the high you’ve experienced the first time around. And at some point the amount of drugs you take will far surpass the amount you can ever truly recover from. The drugs may fuck your mental state up forever (Syd Barret, Pink Floyd and Peter Green, Fleetwood Mac, schizophrenia and psychosis), damage your ability to fluently express yourself (Ozzy Osbourne, Steven Adler) or weather your body down physically (Keith Richards, Rolling Stones). Drugs are pure evil, and in comparison, a sex addiction is the lesser evil and I think most rockstars were aware of that and might’ve tried to fill the void with something less damaging.

Seeing a lot of rockstars’ concerningly intense addictions to drugs like cocaine (increases energy) and heroin (lowers energy) and the common mix of it (balance of high and low energy, makes sense as to why they would mix those two addictions. And explains why those things are so hard to kick) they have very ADDICTIVE personalities.

They’ve been addicted. They might easily get addicted again. Certain addictions to very primal things like sex and physical pleasure are easy to fall into when your mind is attached to something already, it’s easy to fall even further down various addictions when your mind is weak and broken already.

In the end, sex might have been just another drug to them.

And yes, as normal people with a healthy libido, we imagine getting tired of this stuff pretty quickly. But addictions don’t exactly let you get tired of them. Exhaustion isn’t a factor that plays into it, until you get burned out and sick and tired enough to kick the drugs.

Reading Nikki’s Heroine Diaries made me realise that those rockstars DO get exhausted. But it doesn’t influence the use. It doesn’t make them stop, because nothing CAN make them stop until they’re ready to go through the most miserable stage of their life imaginable.

Sex can be an addiction just as any other drug can be and I think a sex addiction is easier to relate to for people like us than a drug addiction, lots of people fall for that nowadays too, even without other drugs being part of the problem. But when drugs are part of it, the sex addiction can definitely get even more intense. In my opinion.

I like reading about zodiac signs and stuff like that, and I was thinking about how interesting it is that three members of Guns N' Roses are Aquarians (Steven, Duff, and Axl).
